Requirements
  • Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) with a current unrestricted Alaska Optometry license for Full-Time employment.
  • Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) with a current unrestricted U.S. Optometry license, with Alaska Optometry license preferred for Intermittent employment.
  • BLS upon start date.
  • Knowledge of advanced eye care to perform clinical duties that meet the standards of care set by the American Optometric Association.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Travel may be required; field travel may require lifting of equipment in totes may weigh up to 50 pounds each.
Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive eye care including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, minor procedures, coordination of care, referrals, consultations, patient or community education and co-management as applicable.
  • Accurate and timely medical recordkeeping.
  • Conduct field Eye Clinics to SEARHC locations.
  • Assist with on-the-job training and competency of the local Eye Clinic staff.
  • May sponsor Dispensing Optician Apprentices.
  • May precept and mentor optometry students.
  • Support departmental compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies, accreditation programs and SEARHC policies and procedures.
  • Travel required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Juneau Youth Services provides emergency, residential, and community-based behavioral health care for children, teens, and their families in Alaska. Services are tailored and strengths-based, delivered in home-like, least-restrictive settings where trained caregivers and clinical professionals form therapeutic relationships to support youth development and family functioning. The programs operate under the Teaching Family Model and focus on keeping or reunifying children with their families when appropriate.
