Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master's or relevant certifications preferred)
  • Eight+ years of progressive HR experience, with a focus on employee relations
  • Experience with HR business partnering, immigration programs, acquisitions and divestitures, and centers of expertise or shared services preferred
  • Prior leadership experience, preferably in a matrix working environment, with direct and indirect reporting relationships and demonstrated and effective influencing skills
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise in compliance and regulatory matters
  • Strong background in union avoidance, awareness, and labor relations preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage technology including HRIS systems and AI
  • In-depth knowledge of employment law and HR best practices
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations
  • Strong analytical skills, knowledge of reporting and record keeping requirements and practices
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and credibility with employees at all levels
  • Self-directed and motivated
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and HR information systems. Experience with Workday preferred
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement employee relations strategies and programs that foster positive relationships and a productive work environment and culture
  • In collaboration with the Westlake legal department, ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, staying updated with changes and advising management on employee relations matters
  • Implement and standardize processes, monitor internal and external employment trends, and optimize efficiency while proactively identifying improvement areas
  • Monitor turnover reasons, exit interview data and engagement scores to proactively identify issues and make recommendations as appropriate
  • Lead and influence employees across the organization, either directly or indirectly
  • Stay up to date with industry best practices and employment laws, ensuring compliance and promoting a positive work culture
  • Provide subject matter expertise to the Human Resources organization for compliance and regulatory matters including drug and alcohol testing, I-9 compliance including E-Verify, immigration-related employment laws, OSHA, workers’ compensation, Fair Credit Reporting, laws impacting criminal background inquiries, background check adjudication, EEO and reporting requirements, employee records and privacy obligations, leave and accommodation laws, separation and termination laws, and labor law and union-related compliance
  • Guide HR team members on matters involving policies, procedures, and employment practices. Serve as a subject matter expert on employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, disciplinary action, performance improvement plans, ADA/FMLA leave administration, return to work/fit for duty protocols and policy interpretation
  • Manage and oversee HR-related policies and practices, governance, and serve as focal point for ongoing policy review processes. Draft internal policies that are consistent with applicable employment laws and assist with the integration of HR policies and practices following acquisitions as appropriate
  • Serve as the focal point for the administration of HR related cases within the EthicsPoint hotline tool in partnership with the legal department as appropriate. Oversee timely and highly complex investigations and review the overall accuracy and completeness of department investigations and field investigations as appropriate
  • Coordinate responses with HR Leadership, the legal department and outside legal representatives if applicable on employment related complaints filed with state and federal agencies
  • Provide coaching and training to managers and HR on employee relations matters, conflict resolution, corrective actions, and performance accountability issues
  • Develop and deliver employee relations training programs to enhance understanding and awareness for HR and managers
  • Partner with HR leadership team in developing and implanting a periodic HR audit plan for the evaluation of the adequacy and effectiveness of the department’s policies, procedures, and practices. Provide a road map for necessary changes and monitor closure of corrective actions
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee relations documentation and records

  • Experience with healthcare organizations or in a regulated industry preferred
  • Experience with employment litigation and risk management
  • Experience with data analytics and reporting beyond basic reporting
  • Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion best practices and program development
  • Certification in Human Resources, Employment Law, or Labor Relations preferred
  • Experience with global employment laws and cross-border employment considerations
  • Experience with policies and procedures relating to workplace safety and workers compensation
  • Experience with whistleblower hotlines and ethics investigations

Rigzone Staff Monday, March 30, 2026 | 5:12 AM EST OMV and ADNOC named NOVA Chemicals resident and chief executive Roger Kearns as CEO of Borouge Group International, set for launch this March as a consolidation of ADNOC and OMV's polyolefins businesses. OMV AG and Abu Dhabi National Oil Co PJSC (ADNOC) has named NOVA Chemicals Corp president and chief executive Roger Kearns as CEO of Borouge Group International AG (BGI), set for launch this March as a consolidation of ADNOC and OMV's polyolefins businesses. Concurrent with the formation of the joint venture, ADNOC expects to complete the acquisition of NOVA Chemicals, a Calgary-based subsidiary of Emirati sovereign investor Mubadala Investment Co, also this month. NOVA Chemicals is to be transferred to BGI, a merger between Borealis GmbH and Borouge PLC. Austria's state-backed OMV owns 75 percent of Vienna-based Borealis while ADNOC holds the remaining 25 percent. In Abu Dhabi-based Borouge, ADNOC directly owns 54 percent while Borealis has 36 percent. "From day 1, our priority will be continuity for customers, confidence for shareholders and disciplined execution as we build a leading global polyolefins champion", Kearns said in a joint statement by ADNOC and OMV. The statement said, "Roger brings over 40 years of global experience in the chemicals sector including establishing joint ventures, turning around and scaling companies and successfully closing complex deals across key markets including in Asia and the Middle East". "At NOVA Chemicals, he led the construction and startup of major growth projects and expanded the company's position in recycled polyethylene", it added. Kearns previously served as chief operating officer of Westlake, as well as held operational and investment roles at Solvay in Asia, Europe and the United States, the statement said. ADNOC managing director and CEO Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber has been appointed chair of BGI's supervisory board. Borealis CEO Stefan Doboczky will become BGI chief commercial officer. "In his current role as CEO of Borealis, he has successfully led the company through a period of significant market and energy price challenges... Prior to joining Borealis, his 30-year international career included more than a decade as CEO and executive board member of listed chemicals companies and private equity firms", the statement said. Borouge chief operating officer Hasan Karam will continue with that role at BGI. "In his role at Borouge PLC, Dr Karam has led the transformation of and driven operational excellence at the world's largest integrated single-site polyolefin complex, delivering record production levels and utilization rates above nameplate capacity, while advancing efficiency across the company's assets through artificial intelligence and digitalization", the statement said. Daniel Turnheim, Borealis' current chief financial officer (CFO), will become interim CFO at BGI until a permanent appointment, which is expected May 2026. "As Borouge PLC will retain its listing on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange until the proposed tender offer to convert Borouge PLC shares to Borouge Group International AG shares, Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi will remain as CEO of Borouge PLC, with Jan-Martin Nufer continuing in his role as CFO of Borouge PLC during the transition period and Roland Janssen remaining as chief marketing officer", the statement said. "Dr Hasan Karam will also continue in his role as chief operating officer of Borouge PLC". BGI "will benefit from one of the most geographically diversified platforms in the polyolefins sector, integrating production across three continents and serving customers internationally", ADNOC and OMV added.
