Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required

Responsibilities
  • Assess assigned patients and evaluate plans to include documentation of nursing care.
  • Report symptoms and changes in patients’ condition and vital signs.
  • Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients’ responses, conditions and physician orders.
  • Review, evaluate and report diagnostic tests to assess patient’s condition.
  • Consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals related to assigned patients to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Prepare patients for, and assist with examinations, procedures and treatments.
  • Consider patient age and culture during patient treatments and provide any needed information regarding treatment plan.
  • Nurture a compassionate environment by providing psychological support.
  • Perform appropriate patient tests and safely administer medications within the scope of practice.
  • Administer and maintain accurate records related to medications and treatments as per regulatory bodies, policies, procedures and physician orders.
  • Communicate plan of care in a timely manner to patient and family, as well as the appropriate team members, ensuring compliance with all regulatory guidelines (HIPAA).
  • Use best practices for transition of patient care.
  • Use available resources to assist in discharge planning.
  • Plan, prioritize, and adjust assignments to accomplish goals and render superior patient care; seek assistance when needed.
  • Adapt to changing work demands and environment.
  • Safely operate medical equipment.
  • Serve as a preceptor and assist new staff in the provision of care in order to help them acclimate to the healthcare environment, and a direct patient care role.
  • Provide concise and constructive feedback when needed.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Administer research study agents, standard chemotherapy and biotherapy agents, and non-chemotherapy medications as part of Clinical Trials Senior Chemotherapy Nurse duties; monitor therapeutic responses and side effects; collect pharmacokinetic blood samples and other laboratory specimens as required by each protocol; document per protocol; educate patients and families about treatment and protocol requirements; follow policies and procedures for clinical trials; participate in regularly scheduled Phase 1 Clinical Research meetings.
  • Perform nursing process activities including Assessment, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation for patient care; coordinate plan of care with patient, family and interdisciplinary team; ensure plan of care is accessible to patient and family; discharge planning and teaching; promote development of clinical practice based on research and evidence; assist leadership with unit-based clinical competencies; act as liaison between patients, caregivers and community resources; educate interdisciplinary team and patient/family; serve as direct care provider; document according to nursing policies and procedures; provide patient/family teaching; act as consultant to clinical staff; participate in performance improvement; promote patient safety; communicate changes in plan of care; delegate and oversee care; assist in procedures; administer and monitor blood products; demonstrate knowledge of commonly used medications; observe five Rights of medication administration; document medication administration as per hospital policy; demonstrate clinical judgment in implementing the care plan; evaluate outcomes; participate in staff evaluations; maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance; maintain professional certifications and licensure; comply with Florida Board of Nursing guidelines; cross-train to other units and float as needed; serve as mentor and role model; perform charge nurse role as appropriate; other duties as assigned
