Requirements
  • Licensed to practice independently as a professional counselor in Texas
  • If licensed in another state, must be able to obtain license to practice independently in Texas within one year
  • Licensed to practice independently as a Clinical Social Worker in Texas
  • If licensed in another state, must be able to obtain license to practice independently in Texas within one year
  • Licensed to practice independently as a Psychologist in Texas or license eligible within one year
  • If licensed in another state, must be able to obtain license to practice independently in Texas within one year
  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work or other degree which meets eligibility requirement in Texas for licensure; and licensed as a Professional Counselor or the equivalent from another state; must be able to obtain licensure in Texas within one year if licensed in another state
  • Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology or other degree acceptable to the Texas Board of Examiners of Psychology
  • One year, full-time equivalent, post-doctoral clinical experience in college or university counseling center or other relevant clinical setting
  • Experience working in a college/university counseling center or outpatient mental health setting
  • Demonstrated experience in providing crisis intervention, brief individual therapy, care coordination, and case management to college students and/or young adults with a special focus on survivors of sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking
  • Experience providing culturally competent treatment to a varied client population
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
Responsibilities
  • Provide short-term individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and prevention and outreach services to undergraduate and graduate students with a special focus on survivors of sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking.
  • Conduct initial assessments of students' presenting concerns. Conduct short-term counseling with students referred for service.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all service contacts as required by center policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement programmatic interventions which address the mental health needs of students who have or are experiencing violence.
  • Identify group assignment preferences and propose/develop new groups, as appropriate.
  • Initiate advertising/recruitment and screening for group.
  • Facilitate VAV-related groups.
  • Demonstrate knowledge about group counseling and/or seek appropriate training.
  • Provide Prevention and Outreach services centered around relationship violence prevention, impacts of interpersonal violence, and other related topics.
  • Foster relationships with key campus contacts for the purpose of developing and implementing programmatic interventions that generate substantial participation by students.
  • Participate in the prevention and outreach team meetings by contributing new ideas, engaging in problem solving, and seeking better ways to impact the mental health needs of students.
  • Utilize staff and participant feedback forms whenever appropriate.
  • Review client record to determine the progress, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatment services offered. Maintain current, accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with state and federal law, professional ethics, and Counseling and Mental Health Center, CMHC, policies. Coordinate referrals between CMHC and university or community service providers.
  • Provide clinical consultation to others on an as-needed basis and seek consultation when appropriate. Provide urgent care services as necessary to students. Work collaboratively and cooperatively with other mental health professionals on CMHC's multidisciplinary staff and other university departments and organizations. Develop linkages with key contacts of the designated population or issue for the purpose of developing and implementing programmatic interventions which generate substantial participation by students.
  • Provide clinical training and supervision to social work and psychology interns, as well as pre-doctoral psychology practicum students.
  • Provide individual supervision of interns, practicum students, or psychiatric residents.
  • Provide individual supervision of group co-leaders.
  • Supervise interns' supervision of practicum students.
  • Co-lead training seminars.
  • Offer and supervise preceptorships and apprenticeships for interns.
  • Participate on training-related committees.
  • Participate in training activities during the orientation period.
  • Timely signature on clinical documentation and communication with supervisor of relevant issues.
  • Attend and participate in departmental and division meetings and staff development programs as assigned.
  • Participate in the prevention and outreach team meetings by contributing new ideas, engaging in problem solving and seeking better ways to impact the mental health needs of students.
  • Comply with all CMHC and UT policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • May be assigned other relevant duties as applicable.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in providing brief individual therapy to college students in a university counseling center
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team integrating both a medical model and a developmental perspective
  • Expertise in any of the following treatment modalities: ACT, CBT, and/or DBT
  • Specialized training or expertise working with trauma and/or eating disorders
  • Experience and expertise working with college students who have marginalized identities or who historically underutilized mental health services
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with campus personnel, such as professionals in academic affairs and other student services providers
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a large system and to participate and collaborate effectively in a large mental health services agency
  • Licensed to practice independently for two years
