Requirements
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • A Practical Nursing Diploma from an accredited community college program with evidence of intravenous medication administration in the basic educational curriculum; alternatively, a Practical Nursing Diploma with an intravenous medication administration certificate, or a Practical Nursing Certificate with medication administration and intravenous medication certificates, from accredited community college programs.
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity, and expertise in caring for seniors and their families.
  • Ability to practice to the full scope of nursing practice in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Ability to set priorities and organize work in response to client needs.
  • Knowledge of transfers and lifts.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, internet searches, data entry, and patient information systems.
  • Excellent work performance and attendance record.
Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care to clients through supportive, preventive, therapeutic, palliative, and rehabilitative means to promote health and assess the need for care and treatment.
  • Provide care for less complex clients whose outcomes are predictable and whose risk of negative outcomes is low.
  • Recognize changes in client acuity or complexity and consult with a registered nurse to determine next steps in care.
  • Practice in accordance with the organization's mission and values, policies and procedures, and College of Nurses standards and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with registered nurses and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide safe and effective care.
Desired Qualifications
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach training.
  • At least one year of recent related clinical nursing experience in acute medical nursing.
