Responsibilities
  • Develop assigned market segments, emphasizing new business development for the assigned hotel.
  • Work with the General Manager, Regional Revenue Manager, and Regional Director of Sales to maximize revenue potential and ensure a memorable hotel experience for customers.
  • Develop and execute sales action plans.
  • Maintain positive interdepartmental relations and complete special projects assigned by hotel leadership.
  • Handle inquiry calls, proposals, negotiations, and contracts according to departmental procedures.
  • Book business that enables the hotel to achieve or exceed its monthly room revenue budget and other applicable revenue budgets.
  • Conduct weekly telephone prospecting, qualification, and solicitation calls and meet or exceed outside sales call goals.
  • Include the General Manager in appropriate sales appointments and engage corporate-based sales personnel for assistance when needed to win business.
  • Use the property's computerized sales management system to manage hotel business, including recording sales activities, generating weekly sales reports, entering business, blocking meeting space when applicable, and building accounts.
  • Maintain active status in at least two outside organizations, such as a Convention and Visitors Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, Sports Commission, or university affiliation.
  • Generate sales contracts and banquet event orders when applicable within established guidelines.
  • Develop and present business cases for local negotiated-rate and group business outside established rates and allotments.
  • Deploy seasonal and segmented promotions and packages to drive bookings.
  • Use business tools and internal lead sources to prospect for new business and maximize revenue production.
  • Target specific companies to reach decision-makers who can refer business to the hotel while seeking new business or managing existing accounts.
  • Attend brand and corporate-sponsored sales training and applicable continuing education.
  • Motivate, coach, counsel, and discipline sales department personnel according to company standards.
  • Monitor economic and business news relevant to assigned market segments.
  • Contribute to the hotel's rooms forecast based on business rationale.
  • Follow up and communicate regularly with clients to maintain relationships and secure or retain business.
  • Contribute to the annual budgeting process and understand revenue generation, advertising, and promotion costs.
  • Work at the hotel, spend at least three days per week out of the office on sales calls and two days in the office working on the sales plan, and attend client events, conferences, sales blitzes, and training as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree, or equivalent work experience, is preferred.
  • Experience selling Marriott, Hilton, Best Western, and InterContinental Hotels Group properties across market segments is preferred.
  • Hotel operations experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the hotel's market area is preferred.
  • Experience with customer relationship software such as Delphi.fdc or STS is preferred.
  • The ability to communicate in another language may be helpful.
