Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.
  • At least 18 months of operating room experience is required.
  • A Texas registered nurse license is required, or the candidate must be able to obtain one by the hire date.
  • The candidate should have previous cardiovascular operating room experience.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct and efficient patient care to patients with varied and complex needs.
  • Coordinate care with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Participate in or lead unit and shared governance initiatives.
  • Serve as charge nurse or preceptor to students or new employees when assigned.
  • Contribute to service-line or hospital-wide initiatives.
  • Develop and update individualized plans of care with patients and families using the nursing process.
  • Establish educational goals with patients and families and provide appropriate resources for post-discharge care.
  • Support patients and families in preventing or resolving clinical and ethical issues.
  • Apply clinical judgment, critical thinking, evidence-based analysis, and continuous evaluation when making care decisions.
  • Plan for routine events and anticipate, prevent, manage, and escalate emergent situations.
  • Communicate patient-care and family information comprehensively and objectively to healthcare team members.
  • Use structured communication with patients and families, including hourly rounding, and explain the plan of care using therapeutic communication.
  • Manage patient assignments and unit demands, complete timely and accurate documentation, organize priorities, and anticipate potential problems.
  • Assist other team members and adapt to changes in unit operations.
  • Report near misses and errors promptly and collaborate with interdisciplinary staff to improve safety outcomes.
  • Implement unit and hospital initiatives to achieve National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, initiate evidence-based practice or performance-improvement projects, and research and present practice-change options.
  • Ensure designated core measures are met in patient care.
  • Pursue continuing education to address identified learning needs.
  • Implement staff education and coach or mentor staff and students, including through preceptorship when applicable.
  • Maintain professional contributions according to the Clinical Career Path program guide.
  • Demonstrate the ICARE values and SERVICE PRIDE standards.
  • Follow workplace safety rules, report accidents promptly, and correct minor hazards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
