Requirements
  • Four or more years of relevant sales experience in fields such as Business to Business Sales, Account Management, Healthcare Supply Chain, or Healthcare Products, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated functional knowledge of the healthcare industry and the perioperative space.
  • Strong understanding of hospital operations, large hospital systems, or the distribution industry and warehouse/delivery operations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of advanced selling techniques including strategic selling, team selling, and consultative or conceptual selling.
  • Proficiency in Customer Relationship Management software and Account Management software systems, specifically Salesforce.
  • General proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong financial management skills including pricing, forecasting, and developing cost justifications for product or service solutions.
  • Ability to create successful sales strategies for products, solutions, and service offerings.
  • Ability to deliver effective presentations to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to use critical thinking, problem solving, and effective decision making skills to drive customer solutions.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under pressured deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel for three to four overnights per month to cover the assigned territory of Nebraska effectively.
Responsibilities
  • Manage sales directly to end users of specialty products, solutions, and services to achieve revenue, margin, and sales targets within the Nebraska territory.
  • Serve as the primary sales contact for specialty products and services for assigned accounts including Nebraska Methodist, Prairie Health Ventures, and various hospitals or doctor offices.
  • Manage customer relationships throughout the supply chain to ensure satisfaction through the identification of needs and expectations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the company's specialty products, services, and the competitive landscape.
  • Collaborate with department administrators, clinicians, supply chain, and value analysis teams to address customer issues.
  • Log all sales activities into the Customer Relationship Management system.
  • Orchestrate strategic and tactical selling plans to drive sales and exceed assigned quotas.
  • Provide accurate pipeline management, reporting, and execution of tactical sales plans.
  • Pursue business opportunities to retain existing revenue while increasing product usage and customer penetration.
  • Manage contract and pricing negotiations and perform ongoing contract management.
  • Provide quotes, support the bidding process, and maintain pricing accuracy.
  • Conduct sales presentations and product demonstrations to prospective and existing customers.
  • Partner with internal teams to resolve customer service questions, accounts receivable research, or significant supply disruptions.
  • Communicate shipping schedules with the Distribution Center to ensure timely delivery.

Owens & Minor names Darby Thompson VP of Strategic Business Development. April 7, 2026- Darby Thompson is joining Owens & Minor as Vice President (VP), Strategic Business Development and will report to Dean Huibregtse, Senior Vice President (SVP) Strategic Business Development. After working in various Commercial Account roles at Owens & Minor in the early 2000s, Darby went on to lead business development strategies in the industry and most recently served as the Director of Health System Strategy at Hanger Clinic. He is bringing his over 25 years of healthcare experience and a proven track record in business development with IDNs and GPOs to Owens & Minor.
