Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with at least 9 years of related work experience, a Master's degree in a similar discipline with at least 7 years of related work experience, or a PhD degree in a similar discipline with at least 5 years of related work experience.
  • Strong background in the design and/or analysis of avionics and/or power analog and digital circuits.
  • Complete knowledge of industry and/or academic practices and standards across a range of applications.
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Git, SVN, or Jira.
  • Proven ability to lead teams in delivering project results and manage performance standards, budgets, and schedules.
  • Ability to delegate tasks to team members and work effectively with internal and external program leadership.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of highly complex and critical electronics test systems for spacecraft avionics and power subsystem testing.
  • Derive and document engineering requirements, specifications, and interface definition drawings for test assemblies.
  • Define requirements and guide the design and implementation of field-programmable gate arrays for electronic test systems.
  • Review design analyses for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate specialist engineers to develop integrated designs.
  • Lead team communications regarding technical issues and problem resolution.
  • Plan circuit card assembly, chassis assembly, and rack assembly implementations.
  • Oversee implementation and delivery to users and stakeholders.
  • Develop detailed test and verification plans based on requirements.
  • Produce documentation including test procedures, results, training guides, and issue reports.
  • Participate in the development of contract technical documentation.
  • Provide contract insight and oversight for small contracts.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with radiation-tolerant flight processors such as RAD750 and associated compute element architectures.
  • Experience with field-programmable-gate-array-based embedded avionics or firmware-hardware co-design.
  • Familiarity with JPL or NASA flight hardware design flow, EEE parts control, and packaging and cabling requirements.
  • Prior experience supporting flight hardware integration and test, engineering models, qualification or protoflight models, and delivery to spacecraft-level Assembly, Test, and Launch Operations.
  • Experience with power electronics interfaces for solar array, radioisotope thermoelectric generator, and battery-based power buses.
  • Experience with field-programmable-array-based systems or power electronics.
  • Prior experience as a technical lead or subject-matter expert.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and interface with diverse engineering teams.

Loft Orbital to deploy NASA JPL's AI software for real-time Earth disaster monitoring

Loft Orbital has secured an agreement with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory to host and demonstrate AI software on its space infrastructure. The collaboration, part of JPL's Federated Autonomous MEasurement project funded by NASA's Earth Science Technology Office, will advance on-orbit AI capabilities for Earth science remote sensing. Flight demonstrations began in June 2026, with additional deployments scheduled through 2028. JPL's AI software aims to reduce data latency by processing information in near-real time, delivering urgent insights on wildfires, flooding and natural disasters to emergency responders. The spacecraft will demonstrate autonomous tip-and-queue tasking without ground intervention using intersatellite links. Founded in 2017, Loft Orbital has flown over 25 missions and operates facilities in San Francisco, Colorado and Toulouse, France.
