Responsibilities
  • Provide program level academic support to 300 – 400 undergraduate students and 31 faculty advisors
  • Assist with initial processing of transfer, change of campus, and change of major students
  • Answer questions sent to the program’s advising help request email from students and advisors
  • Utilize university systems like Lion Path and Starfish to manage advising
  • Conduct one-on-one student advising, including assessing student needs and providing academic recommendations, including course selection and scheduling, and other academic matters; monitor academic progress; assist in resolving academic issues including students in academic warning; suspension; make referrals as needed; maintain and ensure confidentiality of student records
  • Assist with coordinating designated student advising program/services and evaluate academic advising services; as instructed, propose, update, revise or develop programs and materials
  • Prepare and disseminate advising, course change information and other key data to students, faculty, and staff in a timely manner
  • Support faculty advisers in understanding policies and procedures
  • Assist with the New Student Orientation program and other student-centered departmental events
  • May assist with student clubs and other extracurricular student activities as appropriate
  • Provide leadership to project work as assigned
  • Provide academic evaluation, guidance, and assistance to students; assess student interests, abilities, and academic performance; provide guidance including course selection and schedules; assist with resolving academic issues
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with students and faculty and familiarity with programs used for course scheduling and advising (Lion Path, Starfish, etc.) is preferred
