Requirements
- An M.D. degree in Medicine or a D.O. degree in Medicine is required.
- Zero to one year of experience as an M.D. or D.O. is required, including successful completion of residency at an accredited healthcare institution.
- Ability to provide diagnostic, treatment, and counseling services is required.
- Ability to analyze situations and take effective action is required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are required to interact with physicians, nurses, staff, and students, along with confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism.
- A current valid license or certification to practice medicine in California is required.
- Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
- Fire Life Safety Training from the City of Los Angeles is required, subject to the stated department and facility exemptions; if unavailable upon hire, it must be obtained within 30 days and renewed before expiration.
- A Drug Enforcement Administration certificate is required.
- Current board certification in a specialty area is required.
Responsibilities
- Perform medical assessments of patients, establish and monitor an appropriate level of care, and provide health education and preventive medical care where appropriate.
- Obtain complete or focused medical histories, perform physical examinations as indicated, maintain accurate medical records, and prepare reports as needed.
- Devise diagnostic and treatment plans, order laboratory and radiologic tests, interpret laboratory, radiologic, and cardiographic tests, and prescribe or administer medications, vaccines, and other treatments as needed.
- Identify unstable or high-acuity patients and arrange transfers to appropriate facilities; refer patients for medical or other treatment when appropriate.
- Perform medical procedures including injections, immunizations, suturing, and wound care, and manage conditions caused by infection or trauma.
- Arrange appropriate medical follow-up plans and ensure patients understand discharge instructions and follow-up planning.
- Work with Counseling Services staff in cases involving mental health problems.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, legal, departmental, documentation, accreditation, and The Joint Commission requirements.
- Maintain professional affiliations, licenses, and certifications, and stay current with developments in medicine.
- Attend and participate in patient care meetings, clinic meetings, and other required events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
- Two years of experience as an M.D. or D.O. is preferred.
