Requirements
  • Advanced expertise in United Kingdom and international anti-money laundering and financial crime regulatory requirements, regulatory expectations, industry guidance, and emerging risk typologies, with the ability to translate complex requirements into practical, risk-based customer due diligence control designs.
  • Proven ability to design, optimise, and govern customer due diligence controls, translating financial crime risks into effective system and control requirements and embedding compliance-by-design principles.
  • Demonstrable experience shaping customer due diligence design across complex programmes and control environments, managing interdependencies, identifying design risks, providing effective challenge, and supporting pragmatic, risk-based solutions.
  • Deep practical expertise across the end-to-end customer due diligence lifecycle, including Customer Risk Assessment, Identification and Verification, Customer Due Diligence/Know Your Customer, Enhanced Due Diligence, and Ongoing Due Diligence.
  • Strong understanding of how customer due diligence interacts with Screening, Transaction Monitoring, Intelligence, Investigations, and Exits.
  • Ability to define, review, and challenge business, risk, and control requirements and target-state solutions, ensuring traceability from regulatory expectations and risk drivers through to control outcomes and delivery.
  • Strong understanding of customer due diligence systems, data flows, workflows, and technology architecture, including technology solutions that support customer due diligence controls and technology-enabled control design.
Responsibilities
  • Provide data-led expert oversight and check and challenge on business and compliance matters to evidence compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical responsibilities.
  • Identify and assess compliance risks through reviews of business activities, changes, processes, testing, and systems.
  • Identify and investigate potential market abuse, including Insider Dealing, Unlawful Disclosure, Market Manipulation, and Anti-Competitive Conduct.
  • Investigate compliance risk events or breaches and oversee, check, and challenge corrective actions and preventative measures.
  • Implement compliance policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements and ensure internal policies align with international standards and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Collaborate with first-line risk owners, Compliance teams, Legal, and relevant risk management functions to support a comprehensive approach to compliance and risk management.
  • Identify, investigate, and oversee potential money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial crime.
  • Design effective, risk-based customer due diligence controls across the end-to-end customer due diligence lifecycle and enhance existing controls where required.
  • Translate regulatory expectations, policy requirements, risk principles, and control objectives into practical, implementable design solutions.
  • Partner with Compliance, business, technology, data, and change teams to deliver improvements to the bank’s financial crime control environment.
  • Advise key stakeholders, functional leadership teams, and senior management on functional and cross-functional areas of impact and alignment.
  • Manage and mitigate risks through assessment in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Guide technical direction, lead collaborative multi-year assignments, and guide, train, and coach less experienced specialists.
  • Create solutions by comparing and selecting complex alternatives, applying in-depth analysis and interpretative thinking to define problems and develop innovative solutions.
  • Build and maintain relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish business objectives.

Housing Plus Group secures $1.2B funding package to invest in homes and communities

Housing Plus Group has secured £961 million in funding from five banking partners to invest in existing homes, deliver new properties, and strengthen communities. The social housing provider partnered with Nationwide, NatWest, Santander, AIB, and Barclays for the financing, supported by advisers Savills and Trowers & Hamlins. The package builds on £806 million of existing facilities, bringing the Group's total loan portfolio to over £1.3 billion. The refinancing simplifies the organisation's treasury structure whilst reducing financial risk and costs. Interim Chief Finance Officer Richard Nowell called it "a transformative moment" that improves financial resilience and creates capacity for customer investment. Group Chief Executive Wayne Gethings said the funding enables continued investment in homes and neighbourhoods whilst delivering new properties for future generations.

Barclays names Mike Joo and Adeel Khan investment bank co-CEOs

Barclays has appointed Mike Joo and Adeel Khan as joint chief executives of its investment banking division, effective February 2027 pending regulatory approval. Joo will join from Bank of America, where he served as co-head of global investment banking. He joined the US lender in 2006 after eight years at Credit Suisse, where he was co-head of Asia debt capital markets. He began his career at Goldman Sachs in 1995. Khan currently oversees Barclays' global markets business and has been co-head of the investment bank since 2021. He joined Barclays in 2008 and has over 25 years' experience in financial services. Previously, Khan worked at BlueBay Asset Management, running the firm's credit hedge fund. Both executives will serve on the group executive committee.

Winvia Entertainment secures $42M Barclays loan to fuel UK prize draw market consolidation

Winvia Entertainment has secured a £33 million three-year term loan from Barclays Bank, replacing its previous Eurobank facility. The AIM-listed company, which operates in UK prize draws and Romanian online gaming, also obtained a £5 million revolving acquisition facility with an uncommitted accordion option to increase it by up to £15 million. As of 30 June 2026, Winvia reported a net cash balance of approximately £31.8 million. The company is the second-largest UK prize draw operator by market share, running brands including Best of the Best, Click Competitions, and Rev Comps. The refinancing aims to support Winvia's consolidation strategy in the fragmented UK prize draw market. Chief Financial Officer Simon Hay said the arrangement establishes "a secure, long term capital structure with low leverage".
