Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six or more years of experience estimating commercial or industrial construction projects.
  • Ability to perform difficult and complex estimating activities and work with drawings, specifications, project controls, and industry best practices for different facilities and industries.
  • Knowledge of conceptual and schematic estimating and general contracting processes.
  • Strong computer skills, including estimating software, Microsoft Office, online plan rooms, and database applications.
  • Experience driving growth and change in a complex business and executing operational plans.
  • Experience driving accountability for financial and operational effectiveness, aligning efforts across departments, monitoring results, and addressing problems directly.
  • Ability to cultivate lasting internal and external business relationships and negotiate and communicate complex business issues to varied audiences.
  • Strong computerized estimating skills using electrical estimating software.
  • Strong knowledge of Bluebeam software for construction-related purposes.

Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day direction and management of estimating staff, including development, training, mentoring, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, hiring, and compensation-related discussions.
  • Collaborate with the Estimating and Internal Business Development Manager to develop a training program for the Estimating Department.
  • Work with Business Development teams to develop strategies for pursuing and procuring bid projects within accepted market segments.
  • Develop bid strategies for individual opportunities with leadership.
  • Schedule estimating resources and plan work to ensure timely and accurate completion of estimates.
  • Identify major project issues and risks in risk-reward situations.
  • Complete accurate budgets from conceptual drawings and written narratives, including justification for preliminary square-foot and systems estimates.
  • Participate in interview preparation meetings and customer interviews and respond to customer questions.
  • Develop scopes of work and bid-leveling documents for soliciting third-party product and service quotes.
  • Level bidders to ensure complete scopes of work and accurate cost information.
  • Create scope-of-work documents describing inclusions, assumptions, and clarifications used in bid estimates.
  • Ensure estimating services comply with organizational standard operating procedures.
  • Provide leadership and business judgment regarding project financial and profitability matters.
  • Oversee bid and budget reviews for accuracy and specification compliance, identify prefabrication opportunities, and maximize profits.
  • Perform and review conceptual estimates and line-item take-offs.
  • Coordinate with the sales team on estimating deliverables and proposal timing.
  • Provide guidance on constructability, scheduling, phasing, and staffing for complete estimates.
  • Schedule and participate in estimating kickoff meetings.
  • Maintain detailed records of estimate revisions and supporting documents for open-book projects.
  • Verify completion of estimator checklists and collaborate on quality-control documents and bid-review checklists.
  • Oversee the division estimating database and coordinate database changes with branches.
  • Establish project site visits that provide learning experiences for estimators.
  • Build and manage subcontractor and supplier relationships and develop strategic alliances with key partners.
  • Communicate with the Centralized Purchasing team.
  • Oversee bid-day procedures and activities.
  • Perform pre-bid reviews with the estimating, business development, and management teams.
  • Lead final bid reviews with the full Estimating Team.
  • Assist with completing bid forms and preparing supporting documentation.
  • Mentor and train team members and support continual professional development.
Desired Qualifications
  • A two-year degree in Electrical Construction or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Ten or more years of experience in the commercial construction industry.
  • Experience with diverse, complex, and large construction projects valued at $5 million or more.
  • Experience with Procore Estimating or D-Tools.
  • Presentation skills.
