Requirements
  • Surgical Technologist certification (CST) is REQUIRED.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification is required.
  • Minimum of 6 months of surgical experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Maintains clinical competencies and knowledge and the ability to perform intra-operative care.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with patients, physicians, co-workers, and others.
  • Requires good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates dependability and accountability.
  • Ability to cope with unpredictable situations, stress and pressure; remains calm in emergency situations.
Responsibilities
  • Assembles supplies and equipment for surgical procedures; opens sterile supplies and prepares for operative procedures.
  • Sets up table, instruments and supplies according to the type of surgical procedure.
  • Applies principles of asepsis; demonstrates knowledge of sterilization and disinfection techniques.
  • Assists and anticipates the needs of the surgeon during the procedure; works within established scope of practice.
  • Utilizes universal precautions when providing patient care.
  • Decontaminates all equipment, instruments, and supplies according to procedures.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Assists with cleaning and maintenance of rooms, equipment, and furniture.
  • Assists with inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Supports and adheres to all company and Surgery Center policies and procedures, Codes of Conduct, Ethics, Compliance, and HIPAA requirements.
  • Participates in Best Practices, Quality/Risk Initiatives and other committees to improve patient care.
  • Keeps management informed of any malfunctions in instruments, equipment and supplies.
  • Performs other position related duties as assigned.
  • Adheres to all applicable laws and regulations; complies with HIPAA and Annual Compliance Training.
