Requirements
  • A Master's degree in an appropriate discipline from an accredited university, or a license/designation in a related field; in some programs, a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline is acceptable.
  • Specialized training or exposure to the program area for which the position is responsible.
  • At least 2 years of teaching experience in a similar course or related subject at a post-secondary institution.
  • Experience developing course materials or curriculum.
  • Sound knowledge of contemporary adult education principles.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement new strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret and apply College, government, agency, and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of initiative and responsibility.
  • Ability to use tact and discretion to deal with or settle complex requests or complaints.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people who have limited English language proficiency.
Responsibilities
  • Develop or revise curriculum in consultation with the Program Coordinator as required.
  • Update course structure, teaching methods, and evaluation tools as necessary.
  • Select and apply appropriate resources to enhance curriculum delivery.
  • Deliver the curriculum in accordance with the course outline.
  • Maintain comprehensive and current knowledge of assigned subject areas.
  • Facilitate achievement of course learning outcomes and students' educational goals.
  • Create an environment conducive to purposeful learning and positive interaction.
  • Monitor student performance and provide constructive feedback throughout the learning process.
  • Record student attendance.
  • Return classroom furniture and equipment to its original position at the end of class.
  • Administer the Course Evaluation Form according to stated procedures.
  • Submit reports and records, including final grade breakdowns, timesheets, and attendance registers, on time and according to prescribed procedures.
  • Enter final grades into Langara's student management system within 10 business days of the final class or examination.
  • Set and model a high standard of professional behaviour and appropriate appearance.
  • Adhere to Langara College policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with administrators, peers, support staff, students, and the community.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings and appropriate college-related activities as requested by the Program Coordinator.
