Requirements
  • Strong claims knowledge and in-depth knowledge of claims file handling, investigation, settlement processes, legal issues and litigation as they relate to claims, best claims practices, and quality file review procedures.
  • Eight years of related experience in claims settlement, handling, or management.
  • Knowledge of insurance industry operations, including sales and underwriting functions, claims operations practices, procedures, and related systems.
  • Ability to supervise and train claims representatives in all aspects of claims processes.
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills to recognize, analyze, and improve claims performance, loss control, adjusted loss expense, customer satisfaction, employee development, and engagement.
  • Ability to make decisions, prioritize, and set strategic directions.
  • Ability to organize and manage varied situations, identify problems, and recommend and implement resolutions.
  • Proficient use of a personal computer, including claims and business software.
  • Valid state licensing where required and successful completion of required applicable claims certification training or classes.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record in accordance with Nationwide standards.
  • Ability to inspect accident scenes and property loss sites, including climbing ladders, balancing at heights, stooping, bending, and crawling.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather, work irregular hours, and travel, including possible overnight requirements.
  • Availability to work catastrophes requiring travel to catastrophe sites and extended on-site responsibilities, including holidays and weekends.
Responsibilities
  • Lead a claims unit within a geographic area, including reviewing, adjusting, and paying property damage claims.
  • Support claims performance improvement by participating in special claims initiatives.
  • Participate in local claims teams to improve cross-discipline coordination.
  • Coordinate resources with quality assurance, fraud, subrogation, claims legal, service center or call center, and corporate support functions.
  • Manage support resources and vendors such as the Property Repair Network.
  • Conduct quality assurance file reviews and implement team recommendations.
  • Monitor and manage unit performance objectives.
  • Deliver customer service to internal, external, current, and prospective customers.
  • Resolve customer complaints according to best practices and monitor customer satisfaction to drive improvement action plans.
  • Identify, develop, and retain associates who have the potential or readiness to fill critical organizational roles.
  • Lead associates through performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions.
  • Partner with Human Resources and claims leadership to develop an annual workforce plan.
  • Lead local recruiting teams as needed.
