Requirements
  • DDS or DMD degree from a dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
  • Active dental license in the United States; an Alaska license is preferred within two years if not employed by the U.S. Public Health Service.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • At least five years of work experience as a dentist.
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare administration, staffing, clinic organization, scheduling, and patient flow.
  • Working knowledge of the revenue cycle, facilities management, and infrastructure areas affecting the clinic.
  • Knowledge of applicable certification and accreditation processes.
  • Knowledge of liability and risk management principles.
  • Working knowledge of proper infection control techniques.
  • Clinical dental skills and accurate clinical judgment.
  • Administrative, supervisory, organizational, interpersonal, communication, computer application, customer service, leadership, and mentorship skills.
  • Ability to manage clinic operations, direct dental clinic staff, mediate and resolve conflict, foster collaboration, recruit and retain qualified staff, organize and prioritize tasks, complete projects, and make independent decisions.
Responsibilities
  • Provide overall administrative and clinical leadership for one or more dental clinics.
  • Serve as the senior dental professional for the clinic and assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate direct and contract resources for dental services.
  • Provide administrative and clinical supervision of dentists, hygienists, dental therapists, dental assistants, and other dental staff assigned to the site.
  • Plan, assign, evaluate, and direct work; ensure adequate employee training; and exercise administrative control in carrying out program policies.
  • Oversee daily clinic flow, front desk operations, staff scheduling, and patient flow.
  • Provide direct patient care to infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients, including village and field travel.
  • Participate as a provider and consultant for SEARHC.
  • Achieve strategic goals and metrics established by the Director of Dental Services and/or Dental Practice Administrator.
  • Resolve employee concerns, oversee the disciplinary process, conduct standing meetings, and perform annual performance reviews for assigned employees.
  • Provide clinical supervision to dentists, dental therapists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants.
  • Collaborate with visiting providers to support patient care.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation and clinical flow of the assigned clinic, including employee scheduling.
  • Oversee front desk operations, including patient registration, check-in and check-out, phone coverage, and training and supervision of office or patient access staff.
  • Coordinate and supervise clinic schedule development and maintenance to ensure coverage and efficient patient scheduling.
  • Identify team training needs and provide feedback to senior leadership.
  • Run and review assigned reports and discuss them with the Dental Practice Administrator or designee.
  • Complete administrative work including IT tickets, work orders, building maintenance requests, vendor relations, and special projects.
  • Lead staff meetings.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the Director of Dental Services or other authorized leadership.
  • Collaborate with visiting providers to ensure they can provide patient care.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certificate from an accredited dental residency program.
  • At least two years of management experience.
  • At least two years of work within a tribal practice.
  • Alaska dental license within two years if not employed by the U.S. Public Health Service.
