Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Studio Art or a related field is required.
  • Two or more years of experience in a college or university setting as an instructor, advisor, tutor, mentor, or administrator are required.
  • Commitment to advising, mentoring, and guiding college students is required.
  • Superior interpersonal skills, including flexibility and approachability, are required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, including the ability to write, edit, and proofread educational documents and other publications.
  • Confidence and experience in teaching, public speaking, or delivering effective presentations before large groups are required.
  • Proficiency with technology and software applications for writing documents, creating spreadsheets and databases, producing brochures and slideshows, and communicating through web-based audiovisual services is required.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and respond effectively to changing situations is required.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as a proactive academic advisor to undeclared undergraduate students and help them navigate curriculum requirements, course selection, university procedures, major selection, and campus resources.
  • Act as a liaison between the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Advising team and programs supporting students pursuing post-graduation degree programs.
  • Collaborate with the undergraduate advising team through regular meetings, shared advising practices, and coordinated student-support efforts.
  • Provide programming support to the department Combined Degree program, including creating and editing advising materials, planning and providing logistical support for on-campus events, and delivering presentations, online seminars, and interactive events.
  • Conduct research, compile data, and provide analysis and program assessment to track, promote, and improve student retention and on-time graduation.
  • Support Combined Degree students who need additional assistance or are struggling with academics or adjustment to Tufts, maintaining professional notes in the Portfolio system and promptly sharing concerns with the Associate Dean.
  • Maintain discretion and student privacy when communicating with faculty, staff, and students, and keep student records confidential.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of School of the Museum of Fine Arts undergraduate students.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's Degree in Studio Art or a related field is preferred.
  • Additional experience in the arts or university student services, including student affairs, campus life programs, college learning centers, multicultural affairs, bridge programs, or retention programs, is beneficial.
  • Experience serving and supporting diverse student populations, including students from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, students with disabilities, and students who do not conform to gender stereotypes, is desirable.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms and tools for sharing documents, images, and video online is preferred.
