Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • One to three years of maintenance experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of the position is required.
  • A valid Florida driver's license in good standing and a safe driving record consistent with agency policy are required.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, practices, and equipment used in maintenance work is required.
  • Basic knowledge of operating tools and equipment used in general maintenance and repair work, including methods and techniques for storing equipment, supplies, and materials, is required.
  • Knowledge of basic preventative maintenance activities and methods and techniques for storing equipment, materials, and supplies is required.
  • Skill in performing one or more trades is required.
  • Ability to perform building, grounds, and equipment maintenance duties is required.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow rules, regulations, policies, and procedures is required.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment used in general maintenance is required.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records, perform routine clerical work, monitor inventory levels, and perform mathematical calculations quickly and accurately is required.
  • Ability to provide information and assistance to parents, youth, the general public, and staff members in a helpful, courteous, and timely manner and maintain effective working relationships is required.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, work independently with limited supervision, and communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing is required.
  • Ability to plan and organize work to meet schedules and deadlines in an environment with changing priorities is required.
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and adapt an effective course of action is required.
  • Ability to safely use tools and equipment used in general maintenance and repair work is required.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including walking, standing, lifting, climbing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, balancing, crouching, working in confined spaces, operating motorized equipment or vehicles, and lifting heavy loads, is required.
  • Successful completion of the required Level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform routine repair and preventative maintenance on buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment to ensure proper working order and appearance.
  • Prepare and forward material and parts requisitions.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance operation records related to materials and work and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
  • Operate and perform operator's maintenance on a variety of equipment and hand tools for repair and maintenance work.
  • Assist in planning ongoing and special projects and anticipating future requirements based on the age and usage of buildings, equipment, and facilities.
  • Participate in the youth vocational exploration work program and directly supervise youth through hands-on maintenance experience.
  • Perform other facility-specific duties as assigned.
  • Travel occasionally for training purposes or to other agency locations to provide assistance.
  • Follow safety precautions and use personal protective equipment when working around potentially dangerous materials and situations.
