Requirements
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • Coaching or playing experience at the high school level or higher is required.
  • Candidates must have strong knowledge of basketball rules, strategies, and skill development.
  • Candidates must have proficient verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Candidates must demonstrate leadership and organizational skills.
  • Candidates must be able to work effectively with student-athletes, assistant coaches, administrators, and staff.
  • Candidates must have knowledge of United States Collegiate Athletic Association, Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference, and National Collegiate Athletic Association compliance rules.
  • Candidates must maintain required certifications, including CPR and First Aid.
  • Candidates must complete the Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
  • Candidates must have a valid driver's license and successfully complete a motor vehicle records check.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and conduct effective practices and competitions.
  • Provide game-day coaching and make in-game decisions.
  • Oversee player development, including athletic, academic, and personal growth.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and team-focused culture.
  • Provide vision and leadership aligned with Penn State's values and athletics mission.
  • Recruit, evaluate, and retain academically qualified and talented student-athletes.
  • Maintain consistent communication with prospective student-athletes and families.
  • Ensure recruiting efforts comply with Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference, United States Collegiate Athletic Association, and National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III rules.
  • Manage all day-to-day program operations under the direction of the Athletic Director.
  • Coordinate practice schedules and team activities.
  • Supervise team events and travel as assigned.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to the Director of Athletics for weekly, seasonal, conference, and national awards.
  • Work collaboratively with athletics staff, administrators, and campus partners.
  • Encourage and support academic success and personal development of student-athletes.
  • Assist with the development of community service and service-learning opportunities.
  • Use service activities to teach life lessons emphasizing respect, hard work, education, and service to others.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference, United States Collegiate Athletic Association, and National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III rules and regulations.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree is strongly preferred.
  • Collegiate coaching experience is preferred.
  • Experience in event coordination and personnel management is preferred.
