Requirements
  • An associate degree in a trade-related field or equivalent related experience is required.
  • At least five years of maintenance experience, preferably in a food plant environment, is required.
  • At least three years of supervisory experience is required.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Hawaii Occupational Safety and Health laws, environmental regulations, National Fire Protection Association 70E, National Electrical Code, welding practices, Good Manufacturing Practices, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, Food Safety Modernization Act, and labor laws is required.
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems, preferably MaintainX, and Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
  • The role requires effective verbal and written communication, analytical thinking, decision quality, problem solving with root cause capability, organization, planning, and the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • The employee must be available for emergencies, off-shift response, and on-call coverage.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, schedule, and execute preventive and predictive maintenance activities with at least 95% on-time completion using MaintainX.
  • Ensure equipment operates safely, reliably, and within specification, and verify that maintenance work is accurate, documented, and compliant before release to production.
  • Respond to equipment downtime and coordinate technicians, vendors, and operations to restore functionality.
  • Maintain plant assets including utilities, boilers, pressure vessels, refrigeration, electrical systems, and structural equipment.
  • Follow the approved escalation process for safety, food safety, or production-critical events.
  • Enforce Good Manufacturing Practices, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, Food Safety Modernization Act, sanitation, and housekeeping standards.
  • Prevent contamination hazards caused by maintenance work.
  • Comply with safety standards and maintain valid permits, inspections, and certifications for regulated equipment.
  • Enforce lockout/tagout, confined-space, machine-guarding, electrical-safety, and personal-protective-equipment programs; stop unsafe work and drive corrective actions.
  • Ensure technicians are trained and qualified for assigned tasks and maintain a clean, organized, hazard-free maintenance shop.
  • Report incidents and near misses and ensure corrective follow-up.
  • Lead, coach, and hold technicians accountable for performance, documentation, safety, conduct, and time and attendance.
  • Provide daily direction and coordinate priorities with Operations and Quality.
  • Complete time approvals, work-order closeout, purchasing, and reporting accurately and on time.
  • Manage maintenance labor, materials, and expenses within the approved budget.
  • Maintain 95% inventory accuracy for critical spare parts and reorder levels.
  • Oversee contractor and vendor performance and ensure work meets standards.
  • Support capital planning and lead assigned projects through completion.
  • Coordinate resources and liaise with contractors, vendors, corporate technical personnel, and consultants.
  • Ensure maintenance tasks are logged into the computerized maintenance management system before the end of each shift.
  • Complete work orders with documented cause, action taken, and verification or return-to-service checks.
  • Maintain preventive and predictive maintenance compliance and provide weekly reporting on backlog, downtime, completion, and resource needs.
  • Lead root-cause-analysis investigations for major or recurring equipment failures.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions within defined timelines and reduce reactive maintenance through planned and predictive maintenance.
  • Operate as the plant monitor for maintenance activities across production areas and administrative offices.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local air, water, and solid-waste regulations and manage operating permits and renewals for boilers and pressure vessels.
  • Prepare maintenance department budgets, monitor budget performance, and manage the site capital plan.
  • Maintain dependable attendance and support a respectful, safety-focused, high-performance work environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Engineering, Food Technology, or an equivalent field is preferred.
  • Experience leading root-cause-analysis and corrective-and-preventive-action programs with demonstrated reliability improvements is preferred.
  • Experience managing capital projects and contractor or vendor performance in a regulated manufacturing environment is preferred.
