Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • An AHIMA or AAPC certification is required.
  • Experience with Epic is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in outpatient professional-fee medical coding is required.
  • Advanced and proficient knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10 coding is required.
  • Professional-level proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required.
  • Proficient typing skills and an effective typing pace are required.
  • Proficiency with standard business and office processes and technical applications is required.
  • The ability to work independently and within a team environment is required.
Responsibilities
  • Review medical records thoroughly and use available documentation to abstract physicians' professional services and diagnosis codes.
  • Follow Official Coding Guidelines and rules to assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10 codes and modifiers with a minimum of 98% accuracy.
  • Provide documentation feedback to clients and account managers.
  • Maintain coding reference information.
  • Review and communicate new or revised billing and coding guidelines and information to providers and their assigned specialties.
  • Resolve pre-accounts-receivable edits and identify and report recurring documentation problems and system issues.
  • Correct incorrectly billed services, add missing unbilled services, provide missing data, and correct CPT and ICD-10 codes and modifiers.
  • Collaborate with Patient Accounting and other operational areas to provide coding reimbursement assistance, identify and resolve incorrect claim issues, and assist with drafting appeal letters when needed.
  • Work with Revenue Cycle staff and Account Inquiry Unit staff as requested.
  • Assist in obtaining documentation, including notes and operative reports, and provide additional code and modifier information.
  • Meet established minimum coding productivity and quality standards for each encounter type based on the type of service coded.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • CPC, CPC-M, CPMA, CEMC, or CCS-P certification is preferred.
