Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and computer experience are required.
  • At least one year of ophthalmic or optometric medical office experience using computer, telephone, and customer service skills is required.
  • The employee must receive or maintain OSC or higher licensure.
  • The employee must have dependable transportation for possible travel to other company locations, and the driving record must meet company liability carrier standards.
  • The employee must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • The employee must be able to work in a normal office environment and may be exposed to blood or bodily fluids and cleaning supplies.
  • The employee must use standard-precaution personal protective equipment when required.
Responsibilities
  • Manage patient calls and questions in a timely and orderly manner, prioritizing calls by severity and need.
  • Receive calls not handled by the patient intake department, determine the appropriate course of action, consult doctors when needed, execute the plan, document activity in the patient record, notify patients of appointment changes, and return triage-mailbox calls.
  • Provide information-desk and patient-guidance support, including answering questions and providing directions, and schedule return appointments.
  • Monitor the NextGen task basket daily; process pharmacy requests using electronic prescribing, obtain authorization, distribute sample drops, document activity in patient records, and return triage-mailbox calls.
  • Fax and electronically send items to pharmacies or physicians' offices as requested.
  • Follow up on outside laboratory work, document received reports, present them to the doctor, and contact patients as directed.
  • Manage doctor-to-doctor and doctor-to-patient calls.
  • Monitor doctor schedules, including cancellations and schedule changes, and follow up with patients for rescheduling.
  • Maintain the sample drug log in compliance with Ohio State Pharmacy Board requirements.
  • Demonstrate quality service and professionalism in interactions with patients, coworkers, and vendors, and follow applicable policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Extensive ophthalmic or optometric experience is preferred.
