  • A high school diploma or equivalent education is required.
  • Five years of experience, including three years in a related healthcare role, is required.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English is required.
  • Strong customer service, telephone, and scheduling skills are required.
  • Basic computer skills in word-processing applications and the ability to use electronic medical record software systems are required.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology is required.
  • Working knowledge of revenue cycle components and insurance requirements for reimbursement is required.
  • The ability to analyze and solve problems is required.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, family members, and coworkers using a customer-service-focused approach is required.

Responsibilities
  • Perform patient check-in and check-out functions.
  • Obtain and enter accurate scheduling and registration data to initiate financial clearance activities as needed.
  • Perform complex scheduling processes and other clinic-related protocols.
  • Coordinate patient flow, including add-ons, rescheduling, and cancellations, according to department protocols.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor for less experienced staff and as a next-level source for problem resolution.
  • Respond to requests from staff, patients, physicians, and other members of the patient care team, including urgent or emergent situations according to protocol.
  • Generate reports and assist with department correspondence and administrative tasks.
  • Serve as a liaison among patients, medical staff, and third parties to resolve patient access and service matters.
  • Enter patient and operational data accurately and promptly into database systems.
  • Protect patient information in accordance with confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Perform charge entry, registration, scheduling, insurance verification and coordination, authorizations, and referrals as directed.
  • Educate patients and others about billing processes and potential financial responsibilities.
  • Organize work, set priorities, support team members, and minimize incidental overtime.
  • Use department resources, equipment, and supplies efficiently and participate in inventory management.
  • Suggest process improvements for patient flow and other quality or service matters.
  • Pursue continued learning beyond baseline competencies.
