This role is onsite in Public’s NYC office Monday-Thursday.
What you’ll do:
- Ownership and accountability for accounting and reporting, development and implementation of company accounting policies and practices to ensure compliance with US GAAP
- Provide analyses and interpretation of technical accounting pronouncements including new US GAAP and SEC rulings, ensuring new accounting policies are implemented across the organization.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of applicable accounting standards, SEC regulations, and industry best practices related to external reporting.
- Direct management of the company’s tax reporting and compliance activities and tax planning strategies through coordination with the company’s external tax advisor
- Effectively manage the relationship with the company’s external audit partner
- Drive strategy around ERP and HRIS, make changes where needed
- Help support overall team initiatives to embrace change and increase efficiency by instituting new processes around various key accounting areas
- Performs other duties as assigned or dictated by business needs
- The ideal candidate is a player-coach who can step into details of journal entries or accounting policies while driving the strategy for an evolving accounting function as the business grows
Who you are:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification required
- 7+ years combined experience in public accounting (Big 4 preferred) and public company financial reporting function
- Comprehensive understanding of US GAAP and strong technical accounting skills
- Experience with complex accounting issues such as M&A, warrant accounting, 606 revenue recognition
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel (Advanced, Pivot Tables, Vlookups, Conditional formulas)
- High level of dedication to adhering to deadlines and attention to detail
- Proven ability to work with minimal direction, as well as be resourceful and independent in solving problems
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- High regard for confidentiality and 100% data integrity
- Familiarity working with Finance and Accounting systems, preferably NetSuite and MineralTree or similar.
Bonus points:
- Experience in pre-IPO companies or experience during an M&A exit or IPO
- Experience with the broker-dealer industry
