News release: 3/31/2026.

News release: 3/31/2026. March 31, 2026 ROCKWOOL Recognized as the Washington Economic Development Association's 2026 Economic Development Project of the Year - Business Recruitment Award Olympia/Lacey, WA (February 25, 2026) - ROCKWOOL was proudly recognized by the leaders of Washington Economic Development Association (WEDA), Washington's only trade association focused on economic development, during their 2026 Economic Development Awards ceremony at their 2026 Winter Conference. "WEDA's Economic Development Awards celebrate outstanding achievement in economic development at the highest level," said WEDA Board Chair Gina Stark. "There are leaders across our entire state working tirelessly to grow jobs and strengthen economic vitality in their communities. These awards honor leaders and projects that are excelling in this impactful work." Amanda Wallner, WEDA Awards Committee Chair who also serves as Economic Development Manager for the City of Richland added, "We received a significant number of impressive nominations from communities across Washington. The nominations reflect a unique array of the breadth and diversity of important work taking place by economic developers in Washington. These projects are often complex and require extensive collaboration and creative partnerships." WEDA's 2026 Economic Development Project of the Year - Business Recruitment Award celebrates the successful creation or completion of a creative, economically significant, and/or model project in a community or region. Factors that may influence the selection include the extent of the economic impact this project has on the community, the development of partnerships, innovation, originality, whether the project or program can be duplicated as a "best practice," and whether the project or program appears to be cost-effective. The award honors projects demonstrating innovation, sustainability, effective use of community assets and measurable economic impact in a community. WEDA noted that ROCKWOOL North America's decision to locate its newest US manufacturing facility in Walla Walla County represents one of the most significant business recruitment successes for both the Port of Walla Walla and the State of Washington. ROCKWOOL, a global leader in stone wool insulation and building materials, selected the Port's Wallula Gap Business Park following a competitive, multi-state site selection process. The 1,280-acre Wallula Gap Business Park is zoned for heavy and mixed industrial use and sits adjacent to U.S. Highway 12, the region's primary east-west freight corridor. The site offered the industrial land, rail connectivity, water capacity and proximity to U.S. Highway 12 - key infrastructure needed to support a world-class manufacturing operation. Years of investment by the Port in infrastructure and industrial site readiness positioned the community to compete successfully for a major global manufacturer. In March 2024, ROCKWOOL acquired 250 acres within the business park to construct a manufacturing facility utilizing advanced electric melting technology to produce stone wool insulation products that improve energy efficiency, fire resilience, and building durability. The project represents an estimated $175 million in local, private investment during construction that will support more than 670 construction jobs. Once operational, the facility will employ approximately 125 people and generate an estimated $8.6 million in annual earnings and $2.4 million in state and local tax revenue. Beyond direct employment, the project is producing secondary economic activity through construction spending, engineering, and local procurement while helping diversify Walla Walla County's economy beyond agriculture and tourism. "At ROCKWOOL, we believe strongly in building sustainable industry, creating well-paying jobs, and being a responsible partner wherever we operate," said ROCKWOOL's Wallula Director of Operations Jørgen Amtoft. "To have those values recognized at the state level is both humbling and encouraging." "ROCKWOOL's investment in Walla Walla County demonstrates what can happen when rural communities prepare the infrastructure, industrial land and partnerships needed to compete for global industry," said Patrick Reay, Executive Director of the Port of Walla Walla. "This recognition reflects years of planning and collaboration and will create lasting economic opportunity for our region." ### About the Washington Economic Development Association (WEDA) As Washington State's only trade association laser-focused on economic development, WEDA is committed to recovering, retaining, recruiting and expanding jobs and re-investment in Washington State. Danish insulation maker Rockwool breaks ground on $300M+ Washington plant

Rockwool North America is constructing a $300 million-plus insulation plant at the Port of Walla Walla's Wallula Gap Business Park in Washington state. The Danish manufacturer broke ground a year ago and is now transitioning from site preparation to building construction, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 29 April. The facility will produce rock-based insulation by melting crushed basalt, requiring 210,000 MWh of electricity annually—enough to power a small city. Washington's commitment to clean electricity, provided by Pacific Power, was a key factor in the location decision, as existing plants in Mississippi and West Virginia rely on natural gas. The plant will employ 175 people and begin production in 2028, serving Western US markets. Eastern Washington's abundant basalt deposits from ancient lava flows will supply the raw materials.

FPA collaboration project nominated for award. The Fire Protection Association, UL Solutions, and PartB have been unveiled as finalists at the 2026 Fire Resilience Excellence Awards (FREAs), in honour of their collaborative work to offer an independent and transparent fire safety testing solution The Fire Protection Association, UL Solutions, and PartB have been unveiled as finalists at the 2026 Fire Resilience Excellence Awards (FREAs), in honour of their collaborative work to offer an independent and transparent fire safety testing solution. Now in its second year, the FREAs recognises organisations and individuals delivering exceptional work to reduce fire risk and strengthen resilience across the UK, including setting new benchmarks in fire safety through leadership, innovation, and measurable impact. Award categories include Outstanding Leader, Team, Organisation, Installer/Integrator, and Product/Innovation. In particular, several organisations have been nominated for the Outstanding Partnership/Collaboration award, which pays homage to a successful fire safety partnership or collaboration that delivers outstanding performance and support, including the FPA, UL Solutions, and PartB. As outlined in the release of the joint paper, Testing Times: a solutions-focused collaboration for UK fire testing, the collective effort of the three organisations looks to address a critical gap in the construction sector, in which there is a need to test and certify the fire performance of not just individual products but also the interfaces and combinations of systems that often present the greatest fire safety risks. Driven by the Building Safety Act and the findings of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, the UK construction sector has seen a significant transformation, with growing emphasis on compliance, traceability, and competence. Each organisation has put forward its unique expertise to deliver independent, impartial, and transparent fire safety testing at a time when regulatory scrutiny, innovation, and accountability are reshaping the construction landscape. Commenting on the FPA's nomination at the upcoming FREAs, FPA chief executive, Dr Gavin Dunn said: "It is an honour to be shortlisted at this year's FREAs. The FPA's collaboration with UL Solutions and PartB is a concrete example of key players in the sector coming together to address a key fire safety concern. "It leverages the unique expertise of each organisation - the FPA's independent testing capabilities, UL Solutions' certification expertise, and PartB's engineering insight - to offers a holistic approach to fire safety validation for the whole UK built environment sector." Also shortlisted for the Outstanding Partnership/Collaboration award are The Institution of Fire Engineers' Early Careers Networking Group, the Association for Specialist Fire Protection, the London Fire Brigade, Women Talking Fire, Rockwool, Eurotech Fire Systems, and more. Sponsored by AXA, the 2026 ceremony will take place on 29 April 2026 at the Birmingham Metropole Hotel. More details on the awards are available here. American Magic Acquires Danish ROCKWOOL Racing SailGP Team in Landmark Deal

American Magic acquires Danish ROCKWOOL Racing SailGP Team in landmark deal. by American Magic 12 Feb 12:36 PST ROCKWOOL Denmark SailGP Team helmed by Nicolai Sehested in action in front of the grandstand on Race Day 2 of The Rolex SailGP 2025 Championship ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix in Auckland, New Zealand (C) Ricardo Pinto for SailGP SailGP announced today that the ROCKWOOL Racing SailGP Team has been acquired by leading sports investor and American Magic Co-Founder, Doug DeVos. The transaction marks a major new chapter for the Danish team in the global sail racing championship, bringing together leaders in global business and high-performance sport - SailGP, ROCKWOOL, and American Magic - through a shared ambition to accelerate on-water performance and bolster the next generation of professional racing talent. Sir Russell Coutts, SailGP CEO and co-founder, said: "Today's announcement marks a significant moment for SailGP - and the start of a bold new era for ROCKWOOL Racing." Continuing, "American Magic are world-class operators, equipped to compete at the very highest levels of our sport. Together with the shared commitment and mission of ROCKWOOL, this new team ownership has the foundations for sustained performance, innovation, and growth for many years to come." Led by DeVos, part of the family ownership group of the NBA's Orlando Magic, the US $60 million transaction underscores the growing value of SailGP teams as the league continues to attract interest from a range of investors - including high net worth individuals, notable investors, established sports funds, private equity, and venture capital groups. American Magic was supported on this acquisition by Miller Johnson and IKON Capital, the sports-focused investment and advisory platform, which also joins as a co-investor in the team. An experienced team owner with a clear vision to take the fastest team on water even further, Doug DeVos said, "This is an exciting time for American Magic. Partnering with SailGP and ROCKWOOL Racing brings together three organizations committed to high performance. SailGP has reshaped the sport through global competition, innovation, and fan engagement, and ROCKWOOL Racing is already a high-performing team with a strong foundation." DeVos continued, "Together, we see a clear opportunity to build a winning team, deliver results on and off the water, advance elite talent, and inspire the next generation of sailors, designers, and boat builders." American Magic will own and operate the team, with ROCKWOOL continuing as Title Partner until 2032 - a landmark extension announced last year, making the world leader in stone wool building materials the longest-standing team partner in SailGP. ROCKWOOL will remain central to the team's identity and long-term vision, supporting performance, innovation, and global brand growth within the championship. The team will continue to represent Denmark and will feature a minimum of three Danish athletes when fully crewed, in line with SailGP nationality rules. ROCKWOOL Racing is the 'Fastest Team on Water', having set the all-time SailGP speed record of 103.93km/h at the Germany Sail Grand Prix in Sassnitz during the 2025 Season. In 2025, ROCKWOOL Racing finished seventh overall - closing the year with a breakthrough event win in Abu Dhabi. Mirella Vitale, Executive Vice President, Marketing, Communication and Public Affairs at ROCKWOOL Group, said: "We're really excited about this new era of ROCKWOOL Racing, and guaranteeing a Danish entry on the SailGP start line for the long-term. We truly believe that Doug and American Magic are the perfect partners to take it to the next level, and accelerate our ambition of winning SailGP." Vitale continued: "Having built the Danish team from scratch to a record valuation over the past five years, this partnership allows ROCKWOOL to do what we do best, supporting the project with global marketing activation, brand building, and top-tier customer hospitality, while American Magic brings its world-class leadership, performance capabilities, and technical excellence to team operations." The team - led by Danish driver Nicolai Sehested - will transition into American Magic's broader performance eco-system, with a focus on elite performance and talent development. Earlier this year, SailGP launched its first long-term training base at the state-of-the-art American Magic Performance and Innovation Center in Pensacola, Florida, as part of the wider agreement between the two organizations. Mike Cazer, Chief Executive Officer of American Magic, added, "This acquisition transforms a passion-driven project into a return-delivering, strategic investment in a fast-growing sport. We look forward to building the team's high-performance platform, helping it compete at the front of the fleet, and adding value to the league. Success, for us, means developing a winning team in ROCKWOOL Racing, strengthening SailGP, and delivering for our title sponsor - ROCKWOOL." The Rolex SailGP Championship returns this weekend, for the ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix | Auckland (February 14-15, 2026). For information and last remaining tickets, visit SailGP.com/Auckland.
