Requirements
  • High school graduation or equivalent is preferred.
  • Successful completion of an approved phlebotomy program is required.
  • One year of experience is preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification is preferred.
  • Must comply with State, Federal, Hospital, and Laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Must adhere to quality control guidelines for specimen integrity and result accuracy.
  • Must be available for multi-campus rotation, weekends, holidays, and coverage of shifts other than the primary shift as assigned.
  • Must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment.
Responsibilities
  • Provide laboratory services as part of the patient care team.
  • Register patients, enter orders, process, package, prepare, and transport specimens.
  • Perform age-appropriate phlebotomy procedures on neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Order supplies and maintain inventory control.
  • Answer customer inquiries, resolve problems, and relay results as a liaison between customers and the laboratory.
  • Perform microbiological tasks, including planting culture types, preparing slides for staining, and incubating plates or plants at the proper temperature.
  • Prioritize processing and transport of routine and stat specimens.
  • Handle specimens appropriately, including inverting tubes, refrigerating specimens when necessary, clotting, and centrifugation.
  • Identify patients and specimens according to established policies.
  • Collect and label specimens accurately and promptly.
  • Perform order entry and registration accurately and promptly.
  • Use computer functions to print results, reprint labels, process standing orders, and batch records.
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and legible written records, including temperature logs, add-on records, and Stericycle records.
  • Monitor supply inventory and keep the work area neat and organized.
  • Use hospital standards for proper telephone etiquette.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
