Panthalassa designs autonomous, floating energy nodes that harvest power from open-ocean waves. Each node is a solid sphere about 50 meters in diameter with a neck extending 60–70 meters below the surface; wave motion pumps seawater into a pressurized reservoir and drives electricity through a single turbine for onboard use. The system emphasizes a simple, rugged solid‑state design and offshore, autonomous operation, with modular, marine-based energy generation aimed at a high capacity factor (up to 90%). Its goal is reliable, ocean-based power for on-site applications and scalable sea-based energy infrastructure for clean power and fuels, supported by funding from investors like Founders Fund, Gigascale Capital, and Lowercarbon Capital.

What believers are saying

  • Raised $140M Series B from Peter Thiel in May 2026 to build Portland pilot factory.
  • Successful Ocean-1, Ocean-2, Wavehopper sea trials in 2021 and 2024 de-risk Ocean-3 deployment.
  • Targets AI data center boom with $0.02/kWh wave power and ocean cooling.

What critics are saying

  • CorPower Ocean's efficient converters capture European market share within 12 months.
  • Aikido's hybrid wind platforms steal AI partnerships from Panthalassa in 6 months.
  • Starcloud's $1.1B space data centers obsolete ocean tech within 24 months.

What makes Panthalassa unique

  • Panthalassa deploys 50-meter spherical nodes harnessing open-ocean waves for onsite power.
  • Nodes power AI compute clusters and green hydrogen production directly at sea.
  • Ocean-3 platform transmits data via low-Earth-orbit satellites without land cables.
