- A Diploma, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, or an advanced degree license in a related specialty area.
- Three years of relevant and recent clinical experience.
- A current Registered Nurse license or advanced specialty license in good standing in the state of Michigan.
- Basic Life Support certification is required by completion of core orientation.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support or Advanced Life Support is required for some registered nurses, depending on the unit.
- A skill level encompassing all clinical aspects of practice management.

- Plan and organize clinical support staff and their functions for the practice.
- Support providers in clinical duties and support the Practice Manager to provide day-to-day continuity of leadership.
- Act as a role model, mentor, coach, and resource for staff to maintain practice standards and encourage a team environment.
- Assist the Practice Manager in attracting, developing, maintaining, and retraining qualified staff members.
- Assist with hiring, orientation, performance monitoring and evaluation, problem solving, employee counseling, staffing, and payroll.
- Resolve clinical issues concerning day-to-day office operations.
- Serve as a contact for internal and external customers.
- Create an environment that fosters positive customer service and meets quality standards.
- Implement new processes and monitor ongoing processes.
- Support and assist in achieving practice and organizational goals.
- Coordinate day-to-day clinical practice operations.
- Supervise practice clinical staff.
- Manage practice variability in response to changes in census, acuity, staffing levels, and patient flow.
- Support staff in providing patient care.
- Assess and direct allocation of resources.
- Function as a clinical resource for staff.
- Assign staff and delineate patient care.
- Participate in employment functions, including hiring, orientation, and corrective action.
- Facilitate orientation, conduct annual reviews, and provide feedback to staff and the Practice Manager.
- Validate the clinical skills of registered nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Medical Assistants.
- Participate in creating, reviewing, and administering policies and procedures and ensure that practice clinical staff follow applicable policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Provide weekly payroll updates.
- Manage clinical inventory, ordering, and narcotic inventory.
- Monitor immunizations and control vaccines.
- Provide in-service training on new equipment and existing equipment annually.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, CLIA, MCIR, and other applicable standards and policies.
- Manage difficult situations using timely, diplomatic problem-solving skills.
- Encourage a team environment and individual accountability.
- Provide support to the Practice Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Previous experience leading and managing clinical staff.
- For Digestive Health, a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is preferred and must be obtained within eight years of hire.
