About the role
In this role, you will lead one of our ambitious and talented Product delivery teams based in EMEA. You will support our growth by leading and scaling an engineering team in close collaboration with Product and Design. You will empower and mentor the team to achieve ambitious yet exciting delivery milestone goals.
As a company built upon groundbreaking disruptive technology, with teams constantly innovating and pushing the envelope in their development, it’s vital that the person in this role is a champion in communication and has the proven ability to motivate and challenge engineers to be the best versions of themselves. Facilitating and sustaining a healthy, inclusive culture where everyone is set up to do their best work is a core pillar for the position.
đź’Ž The main components of this role include:
- Owning the roadmap (technical, staffing, product)
- Fostering team growth, and the growth of individuals within the team, by means of feedback, 1-on-1 coaching, or projects to boost learning
- Ensuring timely and high-quality delivery
About your team
The team you will manage consists of a mixture of highly skilled frontend and backend engineers and partners closely with a Product Manager and Product Designer in a squad like approach. We are all #one-team, and someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves and getting in the weeds is vital to our organization.
While we, as a company, have a global footprint, the majority of your direct team sits in Europe. You will have the opportunity to partner with other “squads” based in LATAM as well.
Tech Stack
Our stack consists of PostgreSQL as the primary datastore, Elixir for our backend services (and some in Python), and Phoenix as the base for our UI (and React for highly interactive bits). Our platform is hosted on AWS, and our development resides in Github. We use Shortcut for project management, Slab for long-term docs, and Slack for our day-to-day communication and coordination.
We use Shape-Up as our product development methodology, where we deeply believe in engineering owning the projects end to end, shaping both the problem and solution. In practical terms.
TLDR;
We have 6 weeks of build time, followed by 2 weeks of so-called cooldown to polish, learn, and prepare for the next cycle.
What You’ll Do:
Within 3 months, you will:
- Organize and allocate projects, together with the Product Manager, shaping incoming initiatives for future build cycles
- Coordinate feature rollouts and incoming requests/questions, with other engineering teams and departments (for example, Support, Sales)
- Identify and drive team improvements (technical projects, learning initiatives, etc).
- Assist and coordinate resolving time-sensitive production issues
Within 6 months, you will:
- Identifying and organizing growth opportunities for the engineers, coaching them through sometimes-eventful times in an early-stage start-up
- Participate in recruitment processes and staffing discussions
- Drive significant product and technology leaps, based on the latest the AI / Elixir developments
Within 9 months, you will:
- Partner with GTM teams in client-facing strategic discussions
- Organize and lead team offsites
- Lead engineering-wide initiatives to improve the development experience or platform scalability
*Please note as we are a dynamic and quickly growing scale-up, things are always subject to change*
What You’ll Bring
- Experience managing teams in a fast-paced environment, with a track record of scaling and growing teams through recruiting and coaching
- The ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and strategies to stakeholders at all levels and achieve alignment on said ideas
- Prior hands-on experience as a developer [Bonus points if you have experience with our tech stack.]
- Proven experience with conflict resolution amongst teams and coaching tactics
- Experience with Shape-Up or other product development methodologies.
- An intrinsic motivation to learn and stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends (particularly in AI)
- Proficiency in utilizing AI tools such as ChatGPT or equivalent digital assistants, applying them effectively within your work context.
