MULTI-ASSET SOLUTIONS TEAM (MAST)
The Multi-Asset Solutions Team (MAST) is tasked with the design, delivery, and management of bespoke cross-asset class investment solutions within Manulife Investment Management. MAST capabilities range from asset allocation, advisory, outcome oriented and equity & fixed income beta solutions, including target date, target risk, liability-driven investing, outsourced chief-investment officer, income, index replication and systematic beta. The team will utilize direct securities, proprietary and non-proprietary public and private markets strategies to construct solutions which are offered to retirement, retail, and institutional investors across the globe. Located in Boston, Toronto, Montreal, London, Singapore and Hong Kong, MAST has over 60 investment professionals with a wide range of expertise.
The Multi-Asset Solutions Team currently manages approximately $203 billion (CAD) across retirement, retail, institutional and high net worth channels.
ROLE SUMMARY
Working as part of the Multi-Asset Solutions Team (MAST) and reporting to the Head of Investment Strategy, LDI and Advisory Solutions the Director, Investment Strategist, is responsible for coordinating the implementation and management of custom liability driven investment solutions as well as preparing analyses to support asset allocation and asset/liability solutions advice to institutional clients and contribute to the growth of the overall multi-asset solutions business.
KEY RESULTS
Engage actively in the implementation, management, and oversight of custom LDI solutions.
Develop and review client LDI solutions in a timely manner.
Model client liabilities and establish custom benchmarks.
Monitor and adjust client mandates to align with investment strategies and objectives.
Document mandates and parameterize them in our proprietary modeling system.
Ensure the quality and consistency of client mandates and solutions.
Collaborate closely with Portfolio Managers to ensure portfolios meet client objectives across all custom solutions.
Provide analyses and insights to support strategic advice on investment solutions to current institutional clients and prospects.
Conduct asset allocation and ALM studies.
Maintain the quality and clarity of presentations for clients and prospects.
Provide internal support with investment, actuarial, and risk management advice to assist sales, client servicing, and marketing teams.
Work closely with Investment Analysts to produce high-quality results efficiently and within deadlines.
Oversee mandate reviews, analyses, and projects.
Verify the work completed by analysts.
Offer support, guidance, training, and mentoring.
Identify opportunities to enhance tools, processes, and controls for increased efficiency.
Ensure that process documentation is current and accurate.
Collaborate with Portfolio Managers and Investment Strategists.
Participate in projects, client meetings, RFPs, and ad hoc client requests.
Deliver proactive and timely responses to client needs.
Offer thought leadership, innovative ideas, and strategies to enhance and expand the business.
Engage actively in MAST Research Hubs.
Contribute to the development and implementation of value-added strategies in LDI and systematic strategies.
Coordinate within MAST and across broader Manulife Investment Management teams and distribution partners as needed.
Bilingual (French & English) is required - The successful candidate will be required to communicate in English and French to support clients from various jurisdictions outside of Quebec.
REQUIREMENTS: (EDUCATION, DESIGNATION)
Actuarial designation (FCIA, FSA, ASA, etc.) or graduate degree in a quantitative field.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in institutional investment solutions, asset/liability management, insurance or pension consulting, or related fields.
REQUIREMENTS: CORE COMPETENCIES:
In-depth expertise in asset allocation, portfolio construction methods, and asset-liability stochastic projections.
Extensive familiarity with both public and private asset classes, as well as financial products and derivatives.
Solid understanding of pension and insurance regulations, along with funding and pricing techniques.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Matlab, SQL, and/or VBA.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Excellent communication abilities.
Fluency in both written and spoken English and French.
Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Capability to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
Strong skills in time management and planning.

Salary range is expected to be between
$116,000.00 CAD - $179,000.00 CAD
