Requirements
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution and the credentials that merit appointment at the rank of associate or full professor are required.
  • A Florida medical license or eligibility for Florida licensure is preferred.
  • Board eligibility or certification is also preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in undergraduate medical school education required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight of medical student recruitment, matriculation, retention, and promotion, student services, financial aid, student records, and student activities.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement medical student affairs policies and procedures and oversee the proper implementation of University-wide policies and procedures for students.
  • Provide academic, professional, and student wellness support services for students.
  • Lead career and professional advising and mentorship programs, including guidance throughout the residency application/Match process for students.
  • Ensure establishment of a student culture and learning environment where students learn to respect differences, exercise leadership, and take responsibility for their actions.
  • Oversee academic societies and coaching programs for students.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Medical Education leadership on policies and procedures to ensure an inclusive and safe learning environment.
  • Provide expertise and remain up to date in the areas of Student Affairs and Admissions to help achieve the COM’s strategic goals.
  • Review program operations and implementation of the policies and procedures of the Office of Student Affairs and Admissions to ensure that the programs, policies, and procedures achieve set goals.
  • Serve as primary contact for students facing academic, professional, personal, and/or financial challenges and refer students to appropriate resources.
  • Develop and provide coaching training sessions to faculty and staff to enhance student support services.
  • Develop and lead professional identity formation activities for students.
  • Deliver the AAMC Careers in Medicine curriculum, in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.
  • Lead reflective student activities related to professionalism.
  • Oversee all aspects of the Medical Student Admissions Cycle, “Admissions Interview Day,” and administrative components of the admissions process.
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating the Admissions Handbook with the Director of Admissions.
  • Deliver presentations and participate in activities related to the Office of Student Affairs, including during the Medical Student Admissions Cycle.
  • Oversee, attend, and assist in planning Student Affairs events including Orientation, White Coat Ceremony, Match Day, and Graduation with the Senior Director of Student Affairs and Student Services.
  • Collaborate with FAU Counseling and Psychological Services in continued implementation of mental health counseling programs specific for medical students.
  • Oversee the implementation of the school’s student governance structure and provide ongoing support and review of this structure.
  • Oversee personnel, processes, and budgets within the Offices of Student Affairs and Admissions.
  • Collaborate with other Colleges within the University to develop Pathway Programs.
  • Ensure maintenance of an effective system for provision of health services to students.
  • Represent the medical profession to students and serve as a role model.
  • Serve as the public liaison to internal and external constituents and represent the medical education program at events.
  • Lead ongoing continuous quality improvement processes for the Offices of Student Affairs and Admissions.
  • Ensure that all appropriate criteria are met for medical education program LCME accreditation/reaccreditation with respect to Student Affairs and Admissions.
  • Represent the Vice Dean for Medical Education when appropriate.
  • Serve in any additional roles as determined by the Vice Dean for Medical Education to further support the Office of Student Affairs and Admissions.
