Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Certified Nurse Assistant certification is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Be accountable to licensed nurses, the Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, and/or Orthopedic Service Line Director.
  • Demonstrate and promote compliance with infection control, legal, and safety standards.
  • Organize and prioritize care according to patient needs and preferences, unit activities, and other commitments.
  • Perform basic patient care activities, including taking vital signs, assisting with meals, administering enemas, providing catheter care and hygiene measures, positioning and moving patients, collecting specimens, and applying restraints and treatments or tasks according to hospital policy and procedures.
  • Provide care with sensitivity to patients' cultural needs and with regard for their rights and privacy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the patient's current condition and recognize situations requiring nursing supervision.
  • Answer call lights in a timely manner.
  • Participate in the organization-wide Performance Improvement Program through orientation, education, quality control, performance improvement, and quality planning activities.
  • Assist the licensed nurse with data collection using the plan of care and document appropriately according to hospital standards.
  • Provide basic patient care to assigned patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse, considering age-specific standards of care.
  • Use verbal and non-verbal interpersonal and communication skills to support organizational service goals, customer satisfaction, and a positive work environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous Nursing Assistant experience or completion of a formal Nursing Assistant course.
  • At least one year of recent medical/surgical experience in an acute-care hospital.
