Requirements
  • A Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university is required.
  • Structural coursework is required for structural engineering positions.
  • Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
  • At least 10 years of relevant industrial experience in civil/structural engineering is required.
  • Knowledge and application of the International Building Code and associated standards, including ASCE, AISC, and ACI.
  • Expertise with civil/structural analysis software, including operating the software and interpreting results.
  • Knowledge of discipline-specific methods, practices, and techniques required to engineer, design, and construct process and manufacturing projects.
  • Ability to lead small to large teams to deliver on commitments.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software, including AutoCAD, MicroStation, or both.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with virtual teams and cross-divisional relationships and provide interoffice execution leadership and support.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
  • The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Familiarize yourself with and utilize department design and drafting standards.
  • Become familiar with project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine the simplest and most efficient approach to engineering tasks.
  • Produce estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs appropriate for the project estimate.
  • Produce detailed design calculations and sketches for project construction materials, organized for checking and use by drafters and designers in preparing drawings and deliverables.
  • Produce designs that use construction materials efficiently, emphasize ease of construction, and meet client expectations.
  • Check calculations made by other engineers for accuracy and conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria, and good engineering practice.
  • Assist the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems and provide sketches and details needed to complete engineering drawings.
  • Consult with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure the flow of information needed for scheduled project completion.
  • Advise the senior engineer about identified design or scope changes.
  • Assist other engineers in developing and assembling scopes, drawings, and specifications into packages for civil/structural procurement inquiries and subcontract pricing.
  • Review and check vendor drawings and drawings from other disciplines for civil/structural input.
  • Develop construction specifications.
  • Review fabrication drawings and construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Perform fieldwork to gather field data, check tie-ins, and provide construction support.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel.
  • Lead small to large teams in coordinating civil/structural efforts and keeping the team focused on scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Identify and develop work-sharing packages for interoffice execution support and provide leadership for communication and execution within scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Estimate and schedule professional service hours and assess the progress and quality of civil/structural work.
