Researcher Associate in the Transplant Human Tissue Biorepository who participates in design, execution, and management of the Comprehensive Transplant Center Human Tissue Biorepository in the Division of Transplant Surgeryas directed; participates in developing and implementing goals and objectives of the biorepository; performs clinical, basic, and translational research work; participates in clinical trial activities; designs and executes laboratory experiments and processing protocols; participates in the on call schedule for research organ offers and transplant admissions that involves being available physically and/or by phone (rotational flex schedule that depends on donor offers); coordinates biospecimen procurement with surgeons, clinical staff, and pathology; establishes and maintains relationships with biorepository customers and provides excellent customer service when initiating, receiving, and distributing orders; receives and processes incoming orders from customers; processes, codes, stores, biospecimens (e.g., human organs, tissue, cells, blood, bone marrow); collects and records clinical data associated with biospecimens; assists in distribution of clinical data and biospecimens to customers; physically transports samples to and from investigators and institutions on and off campus; maintains accurate records of laboratory activities; develops and implements laboratory safety and standard operating procedures (SOPs); carries out general laboratory preparation, cleaning, and organization; monitors and follows laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with EHS and OSHA regulations, as well as local, state and federal regulations, including proper disposal and maintenance of regulated materials; oversees and coordinates periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment; participation in freezer and laboratory space monitoring;trains and coordinates laboratory activities and work assignments of junior laboratory staff; helps to manage inventory and ordering; performs critical analysis of literature relevant to research being undertaken;assists in the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation; assists principal investigator and laboratory manager in the preparation of proposals to obtain new or renewal of intramural and extramural funding in support of research; performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Skills/Experience Required/Desired
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required in an appropriate biological/health science subject or an equivalent combination of education. Master's Degree preferred. 1-3 years of relevant experience required. 3-5 years of relevant experience preferred. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic and/or practical knowledge inthe conduct of biological/health science research is required. Experience in a biological/health scienceresearch capacity is preferred.Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
