Requirements
  • A current Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or a current multi-state Licensed Practical Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of the hire date.
  • Complete state criminal background checks and federal criminal background checks, if applicable, as required for regulated areas.
  • Ability to work successfully under highly stressful conditions and adapt to varying workloads and work assignments on a constant basis.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computer systems used by physician offices and hospitals to capture data accurately and consistently.
  • Ability to function as a team member with respect to organization, communication, and task prioritization.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and all shifts.
  • Ability to lift, move, stoop, reach, and position patients, and carry patients, materials, and equipment weighing 40 pounds or more on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work protracted or irregular hours and in environments involving biohazards, communicable diseases, possible radiological and chemical toxins, deceased persons, water exposure to the hands, and electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing support to the physician and direct nursing care to patients in an inpatient setting.
  • Provide direct patient care according to the patient’s plan of care or the direction of the overseeing role to promote comfort and return to functional health.
  • Consult with the Registered Nurse or Respiratory Therapist for guidance in delivering nursing care as necessary.
  • Perform designated therapeutic procedures for assigned patients as needed.
  • Observe, record, and report patient concerns, symptoms, reactions, and progress to the overseeing role in a timely manner.
  • Assist physicians and the overseeing role with examinations and procedures as assigned.
  • Contribute to nursing assessments by collecting, reporting, and recording objective and subjective data.
  • Observe patient conditions or changes in condition, record signs and symptoms of deviations from normal health status, and report findings to the overseeing role.
  • Participate in developing patient care plans by providing data, contributing to priority identification, and assisting in identifying measures to maintain comfort and support human functions and responses.
  • Assist with assigned patient and family education and rehabilitation by reviewing patient needs with the overseeing role and following the teaching plan.
  • Document nursing interventions and responses to care and communicate them to appropriate health care team members.
  • Safely administer assigned intramuscular, subcutaneous, intravenous, oral, nebulization, and metered-dose inhaler medications.
  • Obtain instruction and supervision from the overseeing role as necessary when implementing nursing techniques or practices.
  • Complete annual education related to specialty accreditation requirements through computer-based learning, training, in-service education, or competency validation.
