Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited diagnostic radiography program recognized by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology.
  • Hold current licensure as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Hold a current Oregon Board of Medical Imaging license.
  • Hold current Mammography certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, or be able to obtain it within the first six months of hire.
  • Obtain a Basic Life Support certificate within 30 days of hire or before independent practice, whichever comes first.
  • Be able to work in person with patients and manage exposure to radiation, chemical solutions, and human tissue or fluids.
Responsibilities
  • Perform mammography and general radiology imaging procedures according to physician orders, using appropriate exposure factors, imaging techniques, and patient-treatment judgment.
  • Position patients for diagnostic imaging according to department procedures, training, and machine requirements.
  • Operate imaging equipment and set exposure factors and techniques to produce accurate, high-quality images with minimal acceptable repeat rates.
  • Use computer image processing to select and optimize images.
  • Present examinations and related patient information to radiologists for diagnosis.
  • Assist with patient transport by moving patients using standard procedures.
  • Perform the complete range of departmental mammographic examinations, from screening to stereotactic biopsies.
  • Identify patients by checking identification, full name, and date of birth according to department procedures.
  • Review patient questionnaires and orders to ensure the correct examination.
  • Label images with complete demographic, positioning, and other required documentation.
  • Log activities, gather charging information, and charge examinations as required.
  • Perform quality control and quality assurance, record results, and report variances from normal equipment function to meet Mammography Quality Standards Act standards.
  • Protect patients and others by using proper machine settings and radiation-safety standards.
  • Practice universal precautions for blood and body fluids and follow sterile practices according to procedures.
  • Communicate clearly and apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to provide appropriate care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Monitor patient status and take appropriate actions to meet patient needs.
  • Follow all departmental policies and procedures.
  • Apply department service standards to internal and external customers.
