Requirements
  • Ph.D. degree in chemistry, material science, chemical engineering, or a related discipline with minimum 3 years of industry experience in the development of lithium-ion batteries.
  • Hands-on experience on sulfur or metal sulfide-based cathode material synthesis and Li-S battery development; solid-state battery development experience is highly preferred. Experience with sulfide electrolytes is a plus.
  • Experience with mechanistic study and failure analysis of lithium battery materials and cells; strong electrochemistry analysis skills and experience in employing multiple methods (crystallography, morphology, spectroscopy, etc.) in understanding failure and performance improvement approach.
  • Experience with analytical and characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction, SEM, FTIR, EIS, DSC, etc. Experience with glovebox use, air-sensitive materials desirable.
  • Hands-on experience in electrode coating, cell fabrication and testing.
  • Structured problem-solving and analytical skills and strong technical skills in areas including electrochemistry and/or nanomaterial synthesis. Design of experiments experience desirable.
  • Excellent work ethic and ability to quickly demonstrate independence.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly evolving research and development needs.
  • A highly analytical, detail-oriented mindset with an eye toward practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • The candidate must be responsible and self-motivated, with a history of stable employment and performance.
Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development and integration of advanced sulfur and metal sulfide-based cathodes into solid state cells.
  • Contribute to the optimization of synthesis conditions to obtain desired particle size, structure and morphology.
  • Perform materials characterization to understand the effect of synthesis conditions on material physical and chemical properties.
  • Perform electrode coating, cell assembly and electrochemical testing to evaluate the cathodes in solid state battery, and optimization of electrode formulation.
  • Lead post-mortem or in-situ investigation of cell components using multiple approaches and provide insight for further performance improvement.
  • Summarize experimental data and contribute to technical reports.
  • Work closely, collaboratively, and effectively with other departments and team members.
  • Adhere to all safety precautions and protocols.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate records of all conducted experimentation.
  • Document and follow standard operating procedures as well as assist in drafting or editing procedures during process development.
