Requirements
  • A high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
  • No prior experience is necessary.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and general computer use is required.
  • Access to a phone at all times is required.
  • Ability to complete basic math calculations is required.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including back belts when lifting and handling heavy products or objects, is required.

Responsibilities
  • Provide customer service by greeting and assisting customers and responding to customer inquiries and complaints professionally.
  • Monitor sales activities to ensure satisfactory customer service and quality goods.
  • Assign employees to specific duties.
  • Direct and supervise employees engaged in sales, inventory-taking, cash-receipt reconciliation, and customer services.
  • Inventory stock and reorder merchandise when inventory drops to a specified level.
  • Keep records of purchases, sales, and requisitions.
  • Enforce safety, health, and security rules.
  • Examine products purchased for resale or received for storage to assess their condition.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, promote, or terminate personnel when appropriate.
  • Perform subordinate work, including cleaning and organizing shelves and displays and selling merchandise.
  • Establish and implement departmental policies, goals, objectives, and procedures.
  • Instruct staff on handling difficult and complicated sales.
  • Formulate merchandise pricing policies according to profitability requirements.
  • Estimate consumer demand and determine the types and amounts of goods to be sold.
  • Examine merchandise to ensure it is correctly priced, displayed, and functioning as advertised.
  • Plan and prepare work schedules and maintain employee schedule and time-card records.
  • Review inventory and sales records to prepare reports for management and budget departments.
  • Confer with company officials to develop methods and procedures to increase sales, expand markets, and promote the business.
  • Plan budgets and authorize payments and merchandise returns.
  • Operate shifts within company guidelines to achieve sales and profit objectives.
  • Assist the Store Manager in measuring and evaluating employees and taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Assist the Store Manager in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, demoting, and terminating employees.
  • Assist the Store Manager in assessing employees and maintaining the business.
  • Assist the Store Manager in ensuring employees understand and follow company policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Store Manager in improving employee productivity through example and leadership.
  • Assist the Store Manager in achieving sales and profit objectives through goal setting and planning.
  • Assist the Store Manager with controlling store expenses.
  • Assist the Store Manager in maintaining company property.
  • Assist the Store Manager in maintaining effective store operations and necessary records.
  • Assist the Store Manager in maintaining timely two-way communication.
  • Assist the Store Manager in developing and maintaining effective work schedules.
  • Assist the Store Manager in providing supervision that supports cleanliness, attractiveness, favorable customer image, and employee conduct.
  • Assist the Store Manager in reducing loss due to theft through adequate supervision.
  • Assist the Store Manager in maintaining current knowledge of local competition.
  • Assist the Store Manager in handling customer complaints effectively.
  • Assist the Store Manager in properly displaying merchandise to maximize profits.
  • Record all hours worked accurately using the time clock and time-ticket verification process.
  • Record all sales at the time of purchase.
  • Record markups, markdowns, spoilage, and store use of merchandise according to company policy.
  • In the absence of the Store Manager, organize, calculate, and enter daily sales information for the corporate office.
  • Assist the Store Manager in closing out payroll accurately and on time.
  • In the absence of the Store Manager, prepare end-of-week and end-of-year reports or ensure they are completed by a trained employee.
  • Advise the Store Manager or supervisor of personnel situations or policy violations affecting store operations.
  • Maintain warning notices reflecting continuous employee performance records.
  • Assist the Store Manager in training all new employees on each shift.
  • Share responsibility for controlling store inventory.
  • Notify the Store Manager or supervisor immediately if the daily bank deposit is not made.
  • Maintain a low cash drawer and use the safe according to company policy.
  • Complete shift-checkout reports at the instructed times.
  • Assist the Store Manager with enforcing vendor check-in procedures.
  • Keep the safe locked at all times.
  • Maintain coolers, shelves, and displays by keeping them full and fronted.
  • Clean and maintain store equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain perishable foods according to company standards.
  • Assist the Store Manager with ordering and maintaining merchandise to prevent out-of-stocks.
  • Assist the Store Manager with building and maintaining sellable displays.
  • Clean the parking lot and surrounding grounds.
  • Sweep and mop floors, dust shelves, and lift or carry trash containers to the outside bin.
  • Unload stock trucks.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Store Manager or Assistant Manager.
