Requirements
  • A current license as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Tennessee or as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
  • Previous experience in psychiatric nursing is desired.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic patient environment as part of a patient care team.
  • Demonstrate and maintain competence in therapeutic communication, supportive counseling, small group dynamics, patient education, and milieu management; provide patient support and limits; and assist with each patient’s treatment plan under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
  • Assist in training, orienting, and teaching new staff members as directed by the Nurse Manager or Nurse Supervisor.
  • Perform medication administration duties, including accessing the pharmacy.
  • Implement physician orders accurately with proper documentation.
  • Obtain administrative or medical consultation to assure quality patient care.
  • Under Registered Nurse supervision, access emergency medical care for patients, provide reports to and obtain records from the Emergency Room, and facilitate patient stabilization.
  • Initiate the Nursing Admission Database and Interdisciplinary Care Plan under Registered Nurse supervision.
  • Evaluate nursing actions and patient responses, documenting each shift in a timely, concise, and legible manner.
  • Recognize, respond to, and report changes in patient conditions to the Registered Nurse.
  • Deliver care according to the age-specific needs of the population served.
  • Facilitate the discharge process and ensure that relevant information is comprehensive, accurate, and appropriately documented.
  • Perform 24-hour chart reviews as needed.
  • Participate in the treatment team process by interacting with the multidisciplinary care team as needed.
  • Apply infection control, hospital emergency, hazardous materials management, and patient and proprietary information confidentiality policies.
  • Advocate for patient rights and process patient complaints and concerns.
  • Perform electrocardiograms, venipuncture, and bedside glucose meter procedures.
  • Follow hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards; complete required annual education; work toward goals and objectives; and participate in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
