  • The Provost will bring extensive academic administrative experience earned within a complex and unionized environment.
  • The Provost will have the ability to foster a culture of trust and empowerment and nurture reciprocal relationships with internal and external partners.
  • The Provost will have a significant track record of leadership that demonstrates expertise in financial and change management.
  • The Provost will have the ability to advance strategic priorities in a manner that supports the University’s commitment to Indigeneity, equity, diversity, and inclusion across all academic activities, policies, and practices.
  • The Provost will be an excellent communicator and relationship-builder who exhibits integrity, sound judgement, optimism and enthusiasm in all aspects of the role.
  • The successful candidate will be fluently bilingual or bring a commitment to acquiring this capability over a short period with support from the University.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, development and implementation of McGill’s strategic academic plan.
  • Uphold academic standards, champion excellence and innovation in programming and scholarship, and advocate for a thriving, respectful campus atmosphere.
  • Empower members of the McGill community to develop ideas beyond and across silos to build upon McGill’s successes and chart a transformative path forward for its academic enterprise.
  • Foster and nurture reciprocal relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate expertise in financial and change management and lead across complex financial structures and budgeting processes.
  • Advance strategic priorities in a manner that supports the University’s commitment to Indigeneity, equity, diversity, and inclusion across all academic activities, policies, and practices.
  • Communicate effectively and build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • Engage with the student community and enhance the quality of the student experience.
  • Take office in July 2026 or as mutually agreed; work within a complex, unionized environment.

The McGill Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship helps people at McGill turn ideas into startups by providing education, mentorship, and practical startup frameworks. It runs programs that take ventures from ideation to fundraising, including the Lean Startup programs, Dobson Bootcamp and Cup, the X-1 Accelerator, and international fundraising tours, with tracks for Life Sciences, Sustainability, and women founders. The Centre draws on university resources and philanthropic support to offer funding readiness, mentorship networks, and access to experienced entrepreneurs and investors, all within a campus-based ecosystem. Its goal is to discover, educate, and cultivate world‑class entrepreneurs and to help them build purposeful companies that contribute to the local and global innovation ecosystem.
