Requirements
  • Access to export-controlled commodities, technical data, technology, and services in compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations and the ability to obtain and maintain the necessary export authorization license.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in a technical field, or 10 or more years of quality experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong working knowledge of statistical process control tools.
  • Experience as a quality control engineer, preferably in an aerospace design and manufacturing environment.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in an organization certified to an AS9100 Quality Management System.
  • Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical inspection requirements, including J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 workmanship standards.
  • Ability to apply risk assessment and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Ability to make sound acceptance and rejection decisions regarding materials based on solid reasoning.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and/or different shifts as required.
  • Ability to work safely in a factory environment and comply with company and OSHA, EPA, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ability to arrive on time and work each scheduled day.
  • Ability to work in a factory environment with moderate noise and chemical odors, move between sitting, standing, and walking, and lift up to 25 pounds periodically.
  • Vision abilities, with correction if needed, sufficient for hand soldering and wiring assemblies.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain the quality strategy for the complete magnetics portfolio, including internally manufactured and externally sourced magnetics.
  • Establish consistency across magnetics drawings, specifications, technical requirements, inspection criteria, test methods, acceptance criteria, quality planning, and related documentation.
  • Evaluate magnetics inspection, test, and acceptance methods and implement improved methods where gaps exist.
  • Develop a strategic roadmap for magnetics inspection and test capabilities, including equipment, processes, methods, supplier capabilities, and technical resources.
  • Improve the clarity, consistency, inspectability, testability, and manufacturability of magnetics requirements and standardize requirements across products and suppliers.
  • Review engineering drawings, customer requirements, military specifications, purchase order requirements, and other documentation for technically sound, measurable, verifiable quality and conformance requirements.
  • Analyze internal and supplier quality data to identify systemic trends, recurring failure modes, technical risks, and corrective or preventive action opportunities.
  • Establish magnetics-specific quality metrics and provide leadership visibility into product quality, supplier capability, conformance risk, test effectiveness, defect trends, and improvement initiatives.
  • Identify high-risk products, processes, suppliers, and technologies and develop risk-reduction strategies.
  • Establish criteria for assessing magnetics supplier capability and support a risk-based supplier audit and development strategy.
  • Participate in supplier audits requiring magnetics-specific technical, process, test, or quality expertise and translate findings into supplier development priorities.
  • Develop magnetics-specific supplier development strategies focused on process capability, technical controls, inspection and test capability, defect prevention, and sustained conformance.
  • Support the technical quality evaluation, qualification, and onboarding of new and alternate magnetics suppliers.
  • Provide technical expertise for significant supplier nonconformances, recurring defects, systemic corrective actions, and supplier escalations.
  • Provide technical analysis and recommendations for complex or systemic magnetics product conformity issues and partner with Quality for formal disposition decisions.
  • Lead or support cross-functional root cause and corrective action efforts and evaluate lessons learned across products, processes, and suppliers.
  • Support Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Control Plans, and other preventive quality tools for critical magnetics products and manufacturing processes.
  • Establish a consistent First Article Inspection and product qualification approach and provide technical support for FAI planning and review in accordance with AS9102.
  • Evaluate magnetics design outputs and Engineering Change Notices for impacts to conformance, inspection, test, supplier capability, and quality risk.
  • Evaluate internal and supplier test capabilities for gaps, redundancy, test coverage, standardization, automation, correlation, and efficiency.
  • Support New Product Introduction and production readiness activities to address magnetics quality requirements, test strategy, inspection methods, supplier capability, process controls, acceptance criteria, and risks.
  • Provide quality input into make-or-buy, sourcing, and supplier strategy decisions.
  • Lead strategic continuous improvement initiatives focused on magnetics quality, technical standardization, test effectiveness, supplier capability, process robustness, defect prevention, and cost of poor quality.
  • Support customer and government quality activities involving magnetics in coordination with the Quality organization.
  • Travel periodically to supplier manufacturing locations to assess capabilities, participate in audits, support supplier development, and resolve significant quality issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning.
  • Knowledge of First Article Inspection in accordance with AS9102.
