  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a communications executive at social justice movement organizations or foundations, or an Executive Director who supervised the communications of an organization
  • Deep knowledge of the media ecosystem (nonprofit and philanthropy ecosystem preferred)
  • Experience managing crisis communications
  • Experience driving and developing the unique voice of an organization
  • Ability to develop and implement a strategy to engage and coordinate a range of senior leaders within the Foundation
  • Sharp instincts and judgment, grounded in experience, about how to prioritize among competing pressing goals
  • High level of emotional intelligence, integrity, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Top notch writer and editor
  • Excellent communication, project management, time management, and problem-solving abilities

Responsibilities
  • Direct and execute the full range of strategic communications planning necessary for the foundation
  • Lead and execute detailed project management for communications, including managing digital content and newsletters
  • Manage all thought leadership and media engagement
  • Coordinate talking points and speeches for all speaking engagements
  • Partner and collaborate with the VP of Strategic Partnerships on communications plans
  • Lead and manage all crisis communications
  • Manage all communications content for the foundation
  • Manage the visual identity of the foundation
  • Ensure that all external communications are consistent with the foundation’s brand identity and messaging
  • Develop and implement an internal communications strategy
  • Provide leadership for strategic communications related to organizational changes
  • Provide strategic guidance to senior leadership
  • Lead the creation and execution of a communications calendar
  • Manage communications staff and external contractors
  • Forge a strong alliance with other teams throughout the foundation
  • Assist with special projects
  • Ensure timely and effective implementation and provide coaching as needed
