Requirements
  • Be enrolled in an American Bar Association-approved law school in the United States and participate in a credit-bearing law school practice program.
  • Complete at least two semesters or three quarters of legal studies, receiving at least 24 semester hours or 36 quarter hours of academic credit, or the equivalent.
  • File a Registrant Bar Application or Florida Bar Application with the Florida Board of Bar Examiners.
  • Pass a criminal fingerprint check conducted by the Florida Board of Bar Examiners or receive a character-and-fitness clearance letter.
  • Be certified by the law school dean or designee as having good character, competent legal ability, and adequate training to perform as a legal intern.
  • Receive no compensation or remuneration of any kind.
Responsibilities
  • Shadow a County Court attorney for approximately one week.
  • Handle an assigned small County Court caseload with responsibility comparable to that of a practicing attorney.
  • Attend all court proceedings and act as attorney of record for assigned clients with a supervising attorney present.
  • Try one or more cases as first-chair attorney and multiple cases as second-chair attorney.
