ThedaCare expands recovery program to Oshkosh and Fond du Lac.

ThedaCare expands recovery program to Oshkosh and Fond du Lac. Oshkosh Northwestern March 26, 2026, 5:01 a.m. CT * ThedaCare is expanding its Emergency Department to Recovery program to its medical centers in Oshkosh and Fond du Lac. * The program, in partnership with the nonprofit Apricity, provides bedside recovery support for substance use patients. * When a patient needs help, a recovery coach is dispatched to the emergency department to offer immediate guidance. * The new ThedaCare Medical Center-Oshkosh, an $84 million facility, began seeing patients on Jan. 19. OSHKOSH - ThedaCare's newest facilities are offering additional medical services. Substance use patients will be offered bedside recovery support after ThedaCare partnered with Apricity to expand the Emergency Department to Recovery program to the ThedaCare centers in Oshkosh and Fond du Lac. ThedaCare says reducing stigma and boosting access can drive lasting change. "Addressing substance use disorders requires more than treating the immediate medical emergency," wrote Director of Community Health Improvement at ThedaCare Paula Morgen in a news release. "By working together to increase awareness, reduce stigma and ensure patients have access to recovery coaches and ongoing services, we can turn a moment of crisis into an opportunity for lasting change and help build a healthier community for everyone." How the Emergency Department to Recovery program works. The program is in partnership with Apricity, a nonprofit organization that specializes in recovery by providing treatment, employment and transitional living. According to the news release, the Emergency Department team will call Apricity's 24/7 Recovery Coach Hotline when a patient is identified as needing help, leading to the arrival of a recovery coach or certified peer support specialist. That coach will provide immediate support and guidance once the patient is willing. Apricity recovery coaches offer 24/7 support after overdose or intoxication. "When someone comes into an emergency department intoxicated or after an overdose, they're not thinking about the next steps, they're just trying to get through the moment," said Apricity Contract Packaging and Recovery Support President Dan Haak. "A recovery coach can be that steady guide, someone who understands what they're feeling and can help them take the first small step toward recovery or treatment." ED2Recovery+ launched in 2020 and is expanding to newer ThedaCare hospitals. ThedaCare Medical Center-Fond du Lac, which opened last year, and the newly built ThedaCare Medical Center-Oshkosh are just the latest hospitals to roll out the ED2Recovery+ program after it was initially launched at three hospitals in 2020. When ThedaCare Medical Center-Oshkosh opened and what services it offers. A 114-000-square-foot campus along the river, ThedaCare Medical Center-Oshkosh started seeing its first patients on Jan. 19 following construction of the grand $84 million facility at 250 W. Sixth Ave. In addition to the ED2Recovery+ program, the campus provides 24/7 comprehensive care, around-the-clock emergency care, inpatient care, outpatient surgery, pediatrics, a drive-thru retail pharmacy, lab services and imaging services such as CT, X-ray, ultrasound, mammography, MRI and nuclear medicine. The Oshkosh facility was completed less than a year after the 25,000-square-foot ThedaCare Medical Center-Fond du Lac opened its doors at the former Forest Mall property at 755 W. ThedaCare and Apricity expand emergency bedside Recovery Support program.

ThedaCare and Apricity expand emergency bedside Recovery Support program. Services Now Available at Oshkosh and Fond du Lac Campuses ThedaCare and Apricity are expanding the Emergency Department to Recovery (ED2Recovery+) program to two additional health campuses, bringing bedside recovery support to more patients experiencing substance use in northeast and central Wisconsin. The ED2Recovery+ program offers patients who come to an emergency department (ED) with a substance use disorder or overdose the opportunity to engage with recovery coaches. ThedaCare partners with Apricity, a recovery nonprofit organization providing treatment, employment and transitional living, employs the recovery coaches. "Addressing substance use disorders requires more than treating the immediate medical emergency. It demands strong community partnerships and a true continuum of care," explained Paula Morgen, Director of Community Health Improvement at ThedaCare. "By working together to increase awareness, reduce stigma and ensure patients have access to recovery coaches and ongoing services, we can turn a moment of crisis into an opportunity for lasting change and help build a healthier community for everyone." When a patient is identified as needing help, the Emergency Department team calls Apricity's 24/7 Recovery Coach Hotline, and a coach arrives within an hour, and, if the patient is willing, begins offering support and guidance. The recovery coaches or certified peer support specialists are people who have walked the journey of recovery themselves, and can offer real life experience. This immediate connection helps people start on a safer path at a critical moment. "When someone comes into an emergency department intoxicated or after an overdose, they're not thinking about the next steps. They're just trying to get through the moment," said Dan Haak, President, Apricity Contract Packaging and Recovery Support. "A recovery coach can be that steady guide, someone who understands what they're feeling and can help them take the first small step toward recovery or treatment." ThedaCare launched the ED2Recovery+ program in December 2020 at three hospitals, rolling out to four more shortly thereafter. Now, the program is growing again to include the new health campuses of ThedaCare Medical Center-Fond du Lac and ThedaCare Medical Center-Oshkosh, which opened in 2025 and 2026, respectively. The need for services. In the last five years, more than 2,000 people have been offered a recovery coach and the opportunity to begin the recovery journey through the program. Of those individuals who engaged with the program, 45% remained opioid-sober while connected to a recovery coach. Dr. William Kumprey, Associate Chief Medical Officer of Emergency Care and an Emergency Medicine Physician with ThedaCare, has connected ED2Recovery+ coaches with his patients. "When patients come into the emergency department after an opioid, stimulant or alcohol overdose, we're treating more than a medical crisis. We could be witnessing a critical turning point in someone's life," said Dr. Kumprey. "The ED2Recovery+ program allows us to offer immediate access to recovery coaches right at the bedside, when patients may be most open to change. Through our partnership with Apricity, we're able to connect patients to treatment, and also to employment support, transitional living and educational opportunities. It can transform a moment of crisis into a pathway toward long-term recovery." The recovery coaches can stay in contact with a patient for up to 18 months, providing consistent support. Substance use disorders are a serious and growing problem in Wisconsin. The state ranks near the top in the nation for alcohol use and binge drinking, and alcohol is the most common substance used by people referred to treatment, Apricity noted. Opioid-related deaths have also risen, and Wisconsin now averages nearly 25 overdose deaths for every 100,000 people. At the same time, almost 1 in 5 adults in Wisconsin had a substance use disorder in the past year, yet most did not receive treatment, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health and Human Services. Many people don't know where to go, face long waits, or worry about cost and stigma. These realities show why it is so important to have effective, accessible support in places like the emergency department, where many people first come during a crisis. Many of the people Apricity meets in emergency departments are often trying to understand their options for treatment or recovery. Connecting with individuals at the hospital, often at a vulnerable moment following intoxication or an overdose, creates a critical opportunity to offer guidance, stabilize next steps and link them to ongoing recovery support. "We are grateful for the partnership and the opportunity to expand the program, providing the right support at the right time," said Morgen. "We hope this program continues to allow people to define what their recovery looks like for them, creating support networks and recovery communities that help more people lead healthier lives."

Valley VNA Senior Care Meals on Wheels funding need met.

Valley VNA Senior Care Meals on Wheels funding need met. Published on March 24, 2026 Every Monday through Friday during the noon hour, friendly volunteer drivers deliver hot, nutritious meals to seniors living within the city limits of Neenah and Menasha. This happens through the Meals on Wheels program where Valley VNA Senior Care collaborates with volunteer delivery drivers from the Neenah-Menasha Emergency Society and the dietary staff at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah. Nearing the end of 2025, Valley VNA Senior Care reached out to the Community Foundation for assistance as they were in need of $6,000 to support food items and $13,050 to support the full operational costs of the Meals on Wheels program. Valley VNA Senior Care has experienced increase in demand like many other food programs this past year and also had concerns they may not receive funding in 2026. "Knowing this is an important service that provides seniors with an essential basic need, we worked with our fund holders who we knew had an interest in supporting programs like this," said Megan Schuessler, Vice President of Donor Services & Gift Planning for the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region. "Within a few weeks we were able to secure more than $20,000 in funding. We are so grateful for our wonderful donors and to be able to provide peace-of-mind for area seniors who rely on this program for their nutritional needs." "With rising demand for Meals on Wheels and increasing food and operational costs, we were deeply grateful for the additional funding received at the end of 2025 to support our program," said Becky Reichelt, President & CEO of Valley VNA Senior Care. "This funding helped us meet critical financial needs while continuing to offer an affordable, hot, nutritious noon meal along with the added benefit of meaningful social connections through our volunteer drivers." ThedaCare introduces new technology for improved hip surgery procedures

ThedaCare introduces new technology for improved hip surgery procedures. Mar 11, 2026 ThedaCare has introduced new equipment aimed at improving outcomes for patients undergoing hip surgery. The Guardian HipCheck Surgical Table is now available at ThedaCare Medical Center-Orthopedic, Spine and Pain, with the goal of enhancing both the procedure and recovery process for those needing arthroscopic hip surgery. Arthroscopic hip surgery is a minimally invasive technique that uses a small camera and instruments inserted through tiny incisions to diagnose and treat joint conditions. Surgeons rely on images projected onto a monitor to address issues such as tears or cartilage damage. Dr. Nickolas Linkous, Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgery Specialist at ThedaCare Medical Center-Orthopedic, Spine and Pain, said the new surgical table offers improvements over traditional methods. "The hip is one of the tightest joints in the body," Dr. Linkous said. "We have traditionally had to separate or distract the joint surfaces to create space for arthroscopic tools. That meant positioning a post between the patient's legs, near the groin area, to help open the joint. With this innovative surgical table, we can distract the hip without the use of a post, avoiding potential complications such as nerve injury." He noted that patients with hip pain due to labral tears or impingement are most likely to benefit from surgeries performed using this table. Describing how it works, Dr. Linkous explained: "The patient lies on the table. Their feet are fitted inside special boot-like harnesses that are then secured to attachments at the end of the table," he said. "The surgical table then uses the patient's own body weight to help distract the hip joint, no post needed. This technology even allows us to manipulate related imaging in 3D and take real time measurements based off of that, which may help further enhance the overall surgical experience for our patients." Funding for this equipment was provided by ThedaCare Family of Foundations. Barbara Beuscher, Senior Vice President and Chief Philanthropy Officer for ThedaCare Family of Foundations, commented on their support: "The Foundation is proud to support such an innovative, technological service that is designed to help enhance the overall patient experience. It's another effort to help improve the collective health of the communities ThedaCare serves," she said. "We are delighted to support endeavors that help expand local access to advanced care, ensuring more patients and their families are able to receive the high-quality health care they need and deserve." Dr. Linkous also stated that using this surgical table could lower risks associated with traditional procedures: "Removing the traditional post and instead using the specialized, boot-like harnesses may help us minimize groin, foot or ankle-related issues and provide safer, more efficient access for hip arthroscopy," he said. "We're proud to offer our patients this innovative surgical table. It helps us make cutting-edge technology accessible to patients here in northeast and central Wisconsin and may help minimize people's need to travel for similar services."

ThedaCare launches Clothing Closet program across all hospitals for discharged patients

ThedaCare launches Clothing Closet program across all hospitals for discharged patients. Feb 14, 2026 When patients arrive at ThedaCare hospitals for emergency or trauma care, their clothing may be damaged during treatment. In some cases, if family or friends are not available to provide replacements, patients have left the hospital with only basic attire. To address this issue, ThedaCare staff developed a program focused on patient comfort and dignity. Amy Mitchell, Care Management Social Work Lead at ThedaCare, led the creation of the ThedaCARES Clothing Closet. "Some of our patients didn't have acceptable clothing to wear after discharge," Mitchell said. "We saw an opportunity to help address that." The goal of the initiative is to make sure all patients have access to essential clothing items when they leave the hospital. Mitchell explained, "This initiative helps us better ensure that people in our care do not need to worry about something as fundamental as having clean, appropriate clothing when they transition from one of our hospitals. The Clothing Closet supports our commitment to holistic patient care. It helps address our patients' social and emotional needs, supplementing the care provided to treat their medical issues." The launch of the Clothing Closet was supported by a $25,000 grant from ThedaCare Family of Foundations. This funding covered start-up costs for new clothing in various sizes - including undergarments, shirts, pants, sweatshirts, jackets, socks, sneakers and boots - as well as storage bins and resealable plastic bags used for packaging. Barbara Beuscher, Senior Vice President and Chief Philanthropy Officer at ThedaCare Family of Foundations stated: "We were able to support such a meaningful and impactful initiative thanks to the continued support of our generous donors. When we are able to offer our patients clean, comfortable clothing when they leave one of our facilities because their own clothes may no longer be suitable, we're helping them leave our hospitals with the dignity and the respect they deserve. This seemingly simple gesture is directly related to the Foundation's ceaseless efforts to help improve the health and well-being of people in the communities we serve." Accessing items from the closet usually begins with staff members identifying patient needs. According to Mitchell: "Our teams have been engaged and responsive in this. They're assessing each patient situation and offering potential assistance. For example, they may notice that a person has come to the emergency department for medical help in winter, clearly underdressed for the weather. When team members observe such a scenario, the hope is we're acknowledging the situation and talking it through with the person to see if we can assist them with appropriate clothing." All 10 ThedaCare hospitals now provide access to a Clothing Closet.
