Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Life Sciences, Medical Technology, or Clinical Laboratory Science.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist from the American Society for Clinical Pathology or as a Medical Laboratory Scientist from the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
Responsibilities
  • Direct the effective and efficient daily operations of the automated laboratory across Chemistry, Immunochemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis technical areas.
  • Oversee quality assurance activities for all areas of responsibility.
  • Develop and evaluate laboratory methodologies, protocols, and techniques, and recommend new procedures, products, and equipment.
  • Ensure staff are oriented and trained on procedures, equipment operation, safety, and patient care services, and develop and conduct competency assessments according to accreditation standards.
  • Oversee the ordering, care, maintenance, validation, and utilization of equipment to ensure accurate and efficient performance.
  • Maintain working relationships with vendors to secure favorable pricing contracts.
  • Work cooperatively with Laboratory Information System staff to update laboratory software supporting testing and reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to investigate patient-care issues related to laboratory testing.
  • Foster positive physician interactions, ensure appropriate handling of physician complaints, and address laboratory-testing concerns with clinicians.
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers to ensure the laboratory test menu supports patient care and turnaround-time expectations.
  • Coordinate day-to-day functions across laboratory departments and oversee laboratory roles in the clinical laboratory in partnership with the Laboratory Quality Coach.
  • Assist the Administrative Laboratory Director with capital and operational budget development.
  • Monitor and control operational expenditures and productivity to support budget growth and financial viability.
  • Assist the Administrative Laboratory Director with hiring new employees.
  • Motivate the team to practice organizational values and service-excellence standards.
  • Define expectations, processes, and action steps to accomplish the department’s strategic goals.
  • Build relationships and shared purpose within the team and across departments while removing operational obstacles.
