- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- 5+ years of full-cycle accounting experience at the manager level
- 10+ years of accounting experience in private industry
- CPA certification is highly preferred
- Experience with public accounting (preferably audit) and grant accounting management strongly preferred
- Proven experience in building or leading analytics functions for startups
- High-level of comfort with accounting software and financial systems
- Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Familiarity with compliance and audits, including experience in liaising with auditors and tax authorities
- Experience in manufacturing, inventory, and fixed asset accounting strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience in QuickBooks Online, Procure Desk, BILL, Ramp, or similar software
- Prior experience in implementing and/or operating advanced accounting software such as NetSuite, Intacct or others is a bonus
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
- Oversee day-to-day accounting activities to ensure accurate recording of transactions
- Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance
- Lead the month-end and quarter-end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate reporting
- Supervise payroll processing, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and maintaining state payroll tax registrations
- Develop and document standard operating procedures to streamline accounting functions and enhance internal controls
- Supervise invoice processing to ensure accuracy, proper coding, and timely payment
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and support decision-making process and support business initiatives
- Prepare financial updates for stakeholders, including VP of Finance and Board of Director Meetings
- Spearhead efforts to improve accounting systems and procurement processes
- Prepare necessary documentation and provide support during year-end audits and tax compliance, including liaising with auditors and tax authorities
- Assist in the annual budgeting process and manage grant financial reporting and billing
- Oversee special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as needed
- Mentor and train other accounting staff as the team grows, promoting their professional growth and development
- Identify and implement new accounting software and systems that are necessary to support the company’s growth
- Monitor new accounting standards in the future that the company may need to adopt
