Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience as a pipefitter in commercial or industrial mechanical construction is required.
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or equivalent hands-on experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and piping and instrumentation diagrams is required.
  • Strong skills in measuring, cutting, fitting, and assembling various piping systems are required.
  • Experience with HVAC, hydronic, refrigeration, or process piping systems is required.
  • Knowledge of piping codes, installation standards, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration safety practices is required.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and layout work accurately is required.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights and lift more than 50 pounds is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, spool sheets, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and job specifications.
  • Plan installation sequencing and coordinate work to avoid conflicts with other trades.
  • Select appropriate pipe materials and sizes based on project requirements.
  • Measure, cut, thread, groove, bend, and assemble piping using hand and power tools.
  • Lay out and install piping systems made of carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, polyvinyl chloride, and other materials.
  • Fit, align, and secure piping systems before welding or mechanical joining.
  • Join piping using threaded, soldered, brazed, fused, cemented, or welded methods.
  • Install pipe supports, including hangers, brackets, clamps, and restraints, in accordance with code.
  • Assist welders with pipe preparation, alignment, and fit-up.
  • Install and maintain mechanical systems such as pumps, compressors, meters, and controls.
  • Perform hydrostatic, pneumatic, and leak testing using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
  • Inspect worksites to identify obstructions and verify structural integrity.
  • Ensure all work meets applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in safe and working condition.
  • Follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and company safety protocols, including personal protective equipment usage.
  • Communicate with supervisors, inspectors, and other trades.
