Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or General Educational Development credential.
  • An Alberta operator's licence in Class 1, 2, or 4.
  • Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics.
  • Current registration with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics if applying for Lloydminster positions.
  • Completion of Alberta Health Services Medical Control Protocols.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification.
  • A current FARE Certificate.
  • Good physical health and the ability to perform paramedic duties, including lifting and moving heavy patients and extricating patients from hazardous environments.
Responsibilities
  • Provide immediate treatment and transportation of sick and injured individuals to appropriate medical facilities within the Advanced Care practice scope.
  • Provide leadership, decision-making, and ambulance safety oversight throughout each shift.
  • Maintain knowledge and skills in accordance with the Alberta Occupational Competency Profile to deliver patient care.
  • Safely operate MHS West vehicles in accordance with health and safety procedures, operational guidelines, and provincial and federal regulations.
  • Stock and maintain vehicles in a state of readiness.
  • Work in hazardous environments to ensure patient safety and stabilization.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies on behalf of patients.
  • Document patient care, assessments, and skills in patient care reports in a timely and legible manner.
  • Create and maintain fully completed electronic patient care reports.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with provincial and federal regulations.
  • Refer media requests to the General Manager.
  • Report incidents and complete written incident reports for the Director or designate.
  • Develop and provide continuing education requirements as required by the Alberta College of Paramedics.
  • Maintain awareness of MHS West operational guidelines and Alberta Health Services medical control guidelines.
  • Participate in the MHS West Quality Assurance Program.
  • Develop a plan for maintaining and improving self-directed professional growth.
  • Advise the director or team leader of injuries that may impair duties.
  • Participate in approved public awareness and community education programs.
  • Maintain the approved uniform, appearance, hygiene, and grooming standards.
  • Follow the MHS West chain of command and support safety-related initiatives.
