Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A bachelor's degree in any rigorous academic field is preferred, with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience as a proven fundraising leader in a complex, decentralized, comprehensive university environment.
  • Experience with high-net-worth individuals, capital project fundraising, planned giving, wealth management, or work in comprehensive fundraising relations.
  • Experience managing a major gift portfolio using metrics, systems, and relationship-building skills to maximize strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of six-figure-plus donors and transformational gifts.
  • Experience in an integrated advancement program and a complex major research university environment.
  • Experience sustaining strong working relationships with staff, donors, faculty, volunteers, and academic leadership.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement creative solicitation strategies for transformational philanthropic gifts in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
  • Ability to assess risk and willingness to take calculated risks.
  • Proven ability to drive performance and execute results, and to develop opportunities and strategies for organizational success.
  • Ability to lead peers and collaborate with staff in a manner that empowers staff to achieve high individual and team performance and goals.
  • Strong evidence of the ability to function in an environment of complexity, uncertainty, and change management.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of high-potential individual prospects capable of making five- to seven-figure gifts through identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship cycles.
  • Solicit and secure major gifts to reach a minimum annual goal determined by Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement leadership and no less than $2 million.
  • Maintain a portfolio of major-gift-level prospects, particularly where multiple complex university relationships and university-wide impact require experienced prospect management.
  • Work with Prospect Management and Development, faculty, alumni, and volunteers to identify and create cultivation strategies for new high-wealth prospects.
  • Manage prospects through qualifying visits, cultivation initiatives, solicitation, securing commitments, and stewardship of current donors.
  • Interface with deans, faculty, program directors, and other university leaders to prepare for prospect meetings and solicitations.
  • Record moves management in the customer relationship management database to track donor engagement.
  • Oversee preparation of funding proposals, talking points, scripts, assessments of potential support, briefings, gift agreements, endowments, and stewardship reports for assigned prospects.
  • Promote deferred giving and apply expertise in deferred-giving vehicles and their role in supporting visionary gifts.
  • Advise university leaders on opportunities for involvement with fundraising and engagement events and initiatives involving top prospects.
  • Assist the President, Provost, Deans, and other academic leaders with solicitations and interactions with donor prospects.
  • Travel to meet donors and prospects and execute strategic moves management.
  • Complete overnight and local travel and attend evening and weekend events.

  • An advanced degree or professional fundraising certification.
  • Experience with high-net-worth individuals, capital project fundraising, planned giving, wealth management, or work in comprehensive fundraising relations.
  • Experience managing a major gift portfolio using metrics, systems, and relationship-building skills to maximize strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of six-figure-plus donors and transformational gifts.
  • A deep understanding of and commitment to an integrated advancement program, and experience in a complex major research university environment.
